Types of Valves

The document discusses the main types of valves: gate valves, globe valves, check valves, plug valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, needle valves, pinch valves, and pressure relief valves. It provides a brief 1-2 sentence description of the purpose and function of each valve type. Gate valves, globe valves, check valves, ball valves, and butterfly valves are some of the most common types used to regulate, control, and direct fluid flow by opening, closing, or partially obstructing flow. Pressure relief valves are specifically used to protect equipment from overpressure or vacuum conditions.

TYPES OF VALVES

PREPARED BY-MOHAMMED SALEM ALI -ALAMARI

IN THIS PRESENTATION WE WILL DISCUSS
ABOUT THE TYPES OF VALVES
• Gate Valve
• Globe valve
• Check valve
• Plug valve
• Ball Valve
• Butterfly Valve
• Needle Valve
• Pinch Valve
• Pressure Relief valve
WHAT IS VALVE???

• Regulates
• Controls
• Directs the flow
• Opening
• Closing
• Partially obstructing fluid flow
GATE VALVE

• Most common type

• Fully open or fully closed
• Minor pressure loss when fully open
• Used in all types of services
• Provide good shut off
GLOBE VALVE

• Used to stop , start ,and regulate the fluid flow

• Flow control and leak tightness required
• Costlier than gate valve
CHECK VALVE

• Prevent back flow in piping system

• Open with forward flow and closed
automatically in case of back flow
PLUG VALVE

• Quarter-turn Valve
• The disk is a solid plug with a bored
• Used as on-off stop valves
• Capable of providing bubble tight shutoff
BALL VALVE

• Rotary motion quarter turn valve

• Uses a ball-shaped disk to stop or start flow
• Quick-acting type
• Smaller and lighter than gate valve of same size
and rating
BUTTERFLY VALVE

• Quarter-turn rotary motion valve

• Used to stop , regulate, and start flow
• Light weight and easy to install and maintain
NEEDLE VALVE

• Design similar to globe valve

• Very fine control of flow in small diameter piping systems
• Sharp-pointed conical disc and matching seat
• Needell acts as a disk
PINCH VALVE

• Simplest valve design

• Linear motion valve
• Used to start , regulate, and stop fluid flow
• Use a rubber tube known as pinch tube
PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE

• Used to protect equipment or piping system from

• Over pressure
• Vaccum
