What is ‘Forcing’ and why is it needed?

What is Forcing
 Forcing is the ability to lock a device during testing to a:
 Radio Access Technology (RAT) - LTE, WCDMA, GSM, CDMA
 Band within a technology - 2.1GHz, 1.8GHz, 800MHz etc
 A frequency WCDMA UARFCN or LTE EARFCN
 A GSM sector , WCDMA Scrambling Code , or LTE PCI

Why Forcing is needed

 Forcing is needed when testing to ensure the test device remains on
the selected technology, band, frequency or sector for the duration of
the test irrespective of the network conditions. Forcing eliminates
handovers which invalidate tests and require the test to be repeated
costing time and money.

Forcing BAND and RAT in a Sequence
 Allows a Single Technology to be forced for simple
setup
 Also allows a fully flexible selection of BAND/RAT
combinations to be defined.
 This allows the device to be configured to work
on a subset of technologies and then a subset of
bands in those technologies.

right corner.
 E.G. S for Single technology, B for Band and RAT

 Manual LTE Physical Cell Id (PCI) Sector Lock
Description
Each physical cell in a network has a unique Cell Id. Unlike Cell Id, Physical Cell
Identity (PCI), a poor choice of name by 3GPP is the LTE equivalent of the
scrambling code in UMTS, and BSIC in GSM, representing a sector within a cell
with a value between 0-503. Sectors within serving and neighboring cells should
have unique PCI values. Due to the limited range of PCI values they are likely to
be reused in large deployments where more than 504 sectors are required.
Problems can occur if the same PCI value is assigned to different sectors in the
same, or neighboring cells, resulting in interference.
