PRIMITIVISM
• The deliberate evocation of primitive power through insistent rhythms
and percussive sounds
• Syncopation and accenting beats give music a sense of power
• Percussion instruments use extensively, but also, the normal
instruments (strings, winds, brass) used in new ways to try to create
percussive sounds.
• Belief that primitive stories and ideas should be explored since the
beginnings of music should be respected rather than forgotten
• Best primitive composer was Igor Stravinsky
