Pneumatic Punching Machine

This document describes the design of a pneumatic punching machine. It uses compressed air to power a double-acting cylinder that drives the punching mechanism. When powered, the cylinder reciprocates up and down, activating the punch to create holes in materials placed on the conveyor belt. The pneumatic system is simple and reliable compared to hydraulic systems, with low maintenance needs. Key components include a compressor, cylinder, valves, motor, gears and punching tool. The machine is suitable for applications like bus body manufacturing that require punching of sheet metal.

Pneumatic Punching

Machine
Abstract:-
• In this proposing system punching will done by using
the pneumatic setup.
• The reason behind this is that aluminum products are
easy to manufacture, reliable and easy to handle.
• This is deal with mech setup due to this their
controlling will easy.
• It is not based on any Hydraulically system due to this
its maintenance cost will low.
INTRODUCTION:

This project is a study about the designing of pneumatic

hole punching machine, which shows the capability to
design a concept using variety of components. As the
name implies, pneumatic systems use pressurized gases
to transmit power. Typically, pneumatic systems use air
as the fluid medium, because it is low cost, safe and
easily available fluid.
TYPES
BLOCK DIAGRAM
WORKING
 When DC power is supplied to the compressor and timing circuit, it supplies
pressurized air to the double acting cylinder though which the double acting cylinder
reciprocates.
 A punching machine is placed beneath the cylinder in such a way that rod end of the
cylinder pushes the punching machine up and down activating the machine to punch hole
in any material placed between the arms of the machine.
 A DC Motor powers the rollers with the help of spur gears which ensure smooth and
uniform motion of the material over the conveyor.
 The overall timing of the conveyor and punching operation is coordinated in such a
way that holes are punched in equal lengths of the material.
HARDWARE USED
 Wood
 DC Motor
 Spur Gears
 Steel
 Hole Punch
 Pneumatic Cylinder
 Pneumatic Hoses
 Solenoid Valve

HARDWARE DESCRIPTION
DOUBLE ACTING CYCLINDER:
A pneumatic cylinder uses the pressure of a gas to
perform work, specifically linear work. The word
"pneumatic" comes from the Greek and refers to air,
which is the least expensive and most common type of
gas used in pneumatic cylinders. Air can be easily taken
in and compressed to refill pneumatic systems, and does
not pose the same danger as other gases. Some inert
gases may be used instead, but these must be ordered or
manufactured pre-compressed in tanks and have more
limited uses.
CONT.
Pressure hose:
A hose is a flexible hollow tube designed to
carry fluids from one location to another. Hoses are
also sometimes called pipes (the word pipe usually
refers to a rigid tube, whereas a hose is usually a
flexible one), or more generally tubing. The shape of a
hose is usually cylindrical (having a circular cross
section).
Hose design is based on a combination of application
and performance. Common factors are Size, Pressure
Rating, Weight, Length, Straight hose or Coilhose and
Chemical Compatibility.
CONT.
An air compressor is a device that converts
power (using an electric motor, diesel or
gasoline engine, etc.) into potential energy
stored in pressurized air (i.e., compressed air).
By one of several methods, an air compressor
forces more and more air into a storage tank,
increasing the pressure. When tank pressure
reaches its upper limit the air compressor
shuts off. The compressed air, then, is held in
the tank until called into use.
CONT.

Dc motor:A DC motor is any of a class of

electrical machines that converts direct current
electrical power into mechanical power. The
most common types rely on the forces
produced by magnetic fields. Nearly all types
of DC motors have some internal mechanism,
either electromechanical or electronic; to
periodically change the direction of current flow
in part of the motor.
CONT.
spur gears:
Spur gears are the simplest type of gear. They
consist of a cylinder or disk with teeth
projecting radially. Though the teeth are not
straight-sided, the edge of each tooth is
straight and aligned parallel to the axis of
rotation. These gears mesh together correctly
only if fitted to parallel shafts. No axial thrust is
created by the tooth loads. Spur gears are
excellent at moderate speeds but tend to be
noisy at high speeds.
CONT.
 Punch hole
A hole punch (also known as a hole puncher) is a common office tool that is used to create holes in
sheets of paper, often for the purpose of collecting the sheets in a binder or folder.
A typical hole punch, whether a single or multiple hole punch, has a long lever which is used to push a
bladed cylinder straight through a number of sheets of paper. As the vertical travel distance of the
cylinder is only a few millimeters.
 Steel:
Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon containing less than 2% carbon and 1% manganese and small
amounts of silicon, phosphorus, sulphur and oxygen. Steel is the world's most important engineering and
construction material Steel is an alloy of iron and other elements, primarily carbon, which is widely used
in construction and other applications because of its high tensile strength and low cost. Steel's base metal
is iron.
APPLICATION

 Bus body making .

 sheet metal trays hole punching.

 Flange Plates Some parts Used This Method To make the hole.

 Their Work is also used in tool Room.

ADVANTAGE
SIMPLICITY OF DESIGN AND CONTROL
MACHINES ARE EASILY DESIGNED USING STANDARD
CYLINDERS & OTHER COMPONENTS.
MACHINES OPERATE BY SIMPLE ON - OFF TYPE CONTROL
PNEUMATIC SYSTEMS TEND TO HAVE LONG OPERATING
LIVES AND REQUIRE VERY LITTLE MAINTENANCE.
BECAUSE GAS IS COMPRESSIBLE, THE EQUIPMENT IS
LESS LIKELY TO BE DAMAGED BY SHOCK. THE GAS IN
PNEUMATICS ABSORBS EXCESSIVE FORCE, WHEREAS THE
FLUID OF HYDRAULICS DIRECTLY TRANSFERS FORCE.
DISADVANTAGE

 Additional Arrangement Required Cost is Required.

 Any Place Air Leak This System May Be fail.

CONCLUSION

 The design and fabrication of pneumatic glass cutter is completed

with economic and effective considerations. It is controlled by
electronically operated pilot valves. This project work help us to learn
more about Designing, machining process, material handling, material
selection, process planning, cost estimation etc…And our project was
successfully satisfying the intended purpose of design and
manufacturing
