Data Integration

 Companies have several customer-related databases.

 Companies face challenge of integrating data from several sources into
a coherent single view.
 Data Integration requires the customer’s ID.
(E.g., SAP offers MDM that enables to capture and consolidate data
from different sources into a centralized database)
 Solutions for legacy systems, to adopt newer systems with a centralized
database that can accept real-time inputs.
 Legacy systems do not accept real-time data, typically batch-processing
systems.
Data Integration

 Middleware has to be written to integrate data from diverse sources.

 A class of software that connects different parts of a system that would
not otherwise be able to communicate with each other.
 As glue that holds a network together, to integrate data from diverse
sources.
Data Integration

 Single view of the customer provides CRM users with visibility into the
customer’s history of interactions with the business.
 Failure to integrate data may lead to costly operational inefficiencies,
duplication of work, poor customer experience and damaged customer
relationships.
 Data integration relies on standardization of data across databases.
Data Warehousing
 Huge volume data  Information
(Strategic, Operational, Analytical
purpose)
 Data warehouses – repositories of
large amounts of operational,
historical and other customer-related
data.

 Characteristics of Data warehouse: Subject-oriented, Integrated,

Time-variant, Non-volatile.
 Processes : Identify  Extract  Transform (Standardize & Clean)
 Upload ( Prioritize)  Refresh (daily or weekly)

Data Marts

 Scaled-down version or subset of the data warehouse.

 Customized for use in a particular business function or department.
 Projects are less complex – costs are lower because of volume of
storage space, limited users, precise business focus.
Knowledge Management
KM is the practice of consciously
gathering, organizing, storing,
interpreting, distributing and
judiciously applying knowledge
to fulfil the customer
management goals and objectives
of the organization.

Knowledge needs to be STARTS.
