SCENARIO TEXT

Heartbreaking Words of The Doctor to A Patient

Patient with a brain tumor was disappointed to the


surgeon in a government hospital because the doctor
doesn’t give an information about the patinent’s disease
treatment options. Moreover, the doctor said, “If you
won’t to surgery, is okay … please go home and just
waiting for The Almighty calls you.” Hearing that
sarcastic sentense, the patient get angry and soon forced
to return of hospitalized.

1. The Rights:
a. Obtain legal protection throughout the duties in
accordance with professional standards and
SOP.
b. Provide medical services according to
professional standards and SOP.
c. Obtain complete and honest information from
patients or their families; and
d. Receive payment for services.

a. Provide medical services in accordance with
professional standards and SOP and medical
needs of patients
b. Referring patients to other doctors or dentists
who have the expertise or the ability of the
better, if not able to do an examination or

d. Perform emergency care on the basis of
humanity, except when he is sure there are other
people in charge and able to do so; and

Professionalism doctors can be realized with seven star
doctor concept :

1. Health Care Provider


Provide health care as well as treatment with concern
2. Decision Maker
Capable of taking wise decisions in serving patients
3. Communicator
Able to communicate well in order to find the disease and its
cure.

Capable of guaranteeing a leader in the public arena,
becoming a source of questions and dependence

Can manage the circumtances in order to create a system of
effective and uncomplicated

Able to be a researcher, because medical science is always
evolving

The doctor is expected to provide services in a professional
manner by / based on faith and piety.

Medical Ethics

The Basic Moral in The Medical Practice


(Bioethics)

1. Beneficence
A doctor should be able to be friendly with the
patient.
2. Non Maleficence
A doctor should be polite, not to be rude to others.

Each individual should treated as human who has
the right to self-determination. Patient was given
the right to make a decision itself.
4. Justice
A doctor should be treating equally and fair to the
patient.

Effective Communication

Informed Consent

Article 45 of the Medical Practice Act specify any


actions to be performed by a doctor to the patient should
be approved that was given after the patient received a
full explanation, include at least:
1. Diagnosis and procedures for medical action;
2. The purpose of medical action taken;
3. Another action alternatives and risks;
4. Risks and complications that may occur; and
5. Prognosis for their actions.
Effective Communication

The Function of Informed Consent

1. For doctors, informed consent may make sense in


running a medical procedure on a patient, and can be used
as a defense against possible claims or lawsuits from
patients or their families if arising from unintended.
2. For patients, informed consent is an appreciation of the
rights entitled by the doctor and also and can be used as a
reason for a lawsuit against a doctor in case of deviation
from the mean given the doctor's health care consent
(informed consent).
