Horticulture

This document provides information on natural fertilizers used in horticulture, including farm manure, fish tonic, panchagavya, and jeevamirtham. Farm manure refers to decomposed animal waste that improves soil properties. Fish tonic is used to enhance soil fertility and balance nutrient deficiencies. Panchagavya is a mixture of cow products like dung and urine used as fertilizer and pesticide. Jeevamirtham is an organic product made of cow waste and fruits that promotes plant growth and provides immunity by encouraging beneficial soil microbes.

NATURAL MADE OF FERTILIZERS

 FARM MANURE

 FISHTONIC

 JEEVAMIRTHAM

 PANCHAGAVYA
NAME: VESHKAKUMAR

 They put wastes on the grown plant when rain

water flow it won’t take away the ferticity of the

soil.
WHAT IS MANURE?

 Manures are plant and animal wastes that are used as sources of
plant nutrients. They release nutrients after their decomposition.

 The art of collecting and using wastes from animal, human and
vegetable sources for improving crop productivity is as old as
agriculture.

 Manures with low nutrient, content per unit quantity have longer
residual effect besides improving soil physical properties
compared to fertilizer with high nutrient content.
FARM MANURE

 Farmyard manure refers to the decomposed mixture of dung and

urine of farm animals along with litter and left over material from
roughages or fodder fed to the cattle.

 On an average well decomposed farmyard manure contains 0.5

per cent N, 0.2 per cent P2O5and .0.5 per cent K2O.

 The present method of preparing farmyard manure by the farmers

is defective. Urine, which is wasted, contains one per cent
nitrogen and 1.35 per cent potassium.

 Nitrogen present in urine is mostly in the form of urea which is

subjected to volatilization losses. Even during storage, nutrients
are lost due to leaching and volatilization.

 However, it is practically impossible to avoid losses altogether,

but can be reduced by following improved method of preparation
of farmyard manure. Trenches of size 6 m to 7.5 m length, 1.5 m
to 2.0 m width and 1.0 m deep are dug.
FISH TONIC

 Fish tonic is used to increase soil fertility and balance nutrient

deficiency.

 This tonic is used to enhance the growth, weight and immunity of

fishes.

PANCHAGAVYA

 Panchagavya or panchakavyam is a mixture used in traditional Hindu

rituals that is prepared by mixing five ingredients.

 The three direct constituents are cow dung, urine, and milk; the two
derived products are curd and ghee. These are mixed in proper ratio and
then allowed to ferment. When used in Ayurvedic medicine, it is also
called cowpathy.

 Proponents claim that cow urine therapy is capable of curing several

diseases, including certain types of cancer, although these claims have
no scientific backing.
 Cow's urine can also be a source of harmful bacteria and infectious
diseases, including leptospirosis. Panchgavya is also used as a fertilizer
and pesticide in agricultural operations.

 Proponents claim that it is a growth promoter in the poultry diet, it is

capable of increasing the growth of plankton for fish feed, it increases
the production of milk in cows, increases the weight of pigs, and
increases the egg laying capacity of poultry. It is sometimes used as a
base in cosmetic products.
JEEVAMIRTHAM

 Jeevamirtham is an organic product has the potential to play the role of

promoting growth and providing immunity in plant system.

 Jeevamirtam consists of nine products vix. Cow dung, cow urine, jaggery,
fruits,green mung powder and water.

 It is important to provide a congenial environment to microorganisms that help

in making available the essential nutrients for plant growth viz., nitrogen,
phosphorus and potassium, to the plants.

 Jeevamrutham provides such an environment to beneficial microbes.

Application of Jeevamrutham to soil improves the soil considerably. It also
encourages microbial activity in the soil.
USAGE OF JEEVAMIRTHAM

 Usage: Jeevamrutham is a store house of microbes. This shall not

be empties into the roots. Instead, pour this mix into the shade of
the plant at 12 pm when the sun is out.

 Mulchingthe ground where jeevamrutham has been added is

compulsory. This retains the moisture in the soil. It also increases
microbial activities in the soil.
BENEFITS
OF JEEVAMIRTHAM
 Benefits: Jeevamrutham hastens the natural functions of the soil there by
increasing the growth rate of plants and their yield. Earthworm, inevitable to
the fertility of soil moves up towards the top as a result of this. The elements in
the excreta of earth worm, is broken down into molecular form by the microbes
in the jeevamrutham, so that, it can be easily absorbed by the roots. The
upward and downward movement of the worms loosens up the soil. This
creates a positive environment for the growth of the plants. It also helps plants
to absorb nutrients from the soil.
