Well
A deep hole into the earth to obtain water,
oil, gas.

Water well
A well sunk to extract water from a zone
of saturation.
Oil well
An oil well is a general term for any boring
through the Earth's surface that is designed to
find and acquire oil .
Gas well
A well that is designed to produce mainly or
only gas is termed a gas well.
A well used to retrieve petroleum or gas from
an underground reservoir.

Groundwater monitoring well components are


placed in each borehole. Boreholes must be at
least 102 millimeters (approximately four
inches) larger than the outside diameter of the
casing and screen. For instance, when a 52
millimeter (two inch) well casing is used, the
drill borehole diameter should be at least 154
millimeters (approximately six inches).

A well screen is a filtering device that allows
ground water from unconsolidated and semi
consolidated aquifers to enter the well while
at the same time keeping the majority of sand
and gravel out of the well and out of the
pump. A screen also supports the aquifer
material and prevents the borehole from
collapsing.
 In gravel pack operations, a screen and
casing is placed in the wellbore and the
surrounding annulus packed with prepared
gravel of a specific size designed to prevent
the passage of formation sand. The primary
objective is to stabilize the formation while
causing minimal impairment to well
productivity.
