FURNITURE
 Large movable equipment, such as tables and
chairs, used to make a house, office, or other space
suitable for living or working.
 Small accessories or fittings for a particular use or
piece of equipment.
 Refers to movable objects intended to support
various human activities such as seating, eating,
and sleeping.
FIXTURES AND FITTINGS
 Generally a fixture is understood to be any item that
is bolted to the floor or walls, and a fitting to be any
item that is free standing or hung by a nail or hook.
TYPES OF
FURNITURE
1. Free Standing
 Can be moved or arranged relatively. Accumulates
dust, dirt, behind, above and beneath it.
2. Built-in
 It is immovable, fixed and cannot be moved from
one area into another.
3. Fitted
 Includes items like shelves and headboards. Use
of alcoves and recesses ensures good use of
space.
4. Cantilevered
 Supported or only one end can be quite effective
from a design perspective.
5. Upholstered
 Sofas, armchairs are in this type. Suitability of
fabric needs to be considered, as does ease of
cleaning and maintenance.
6. Antique
 Usually very expensive, can be impractical, risky
and difficult to replace and repairs often need to be
carried out by a specialist.
