Blended Learning: Bhavya Raj A R Physical Science

Blended learning combines online learning with traditional in-person teaching. It allows students to learn both in a classroom and online, at their own pace. There are different models of blended learning, including face-to-face instruction supplemented by online activities, rotating between online and offline stations, and online coursework with in-person support. Blended learning aims to create a more personalized education by giving students control over time, place, path, and pace of their studies.

WHAT IS BLENDED LEARNING?
• It is a way of teaching that combines online resources with a teacher
instruction.

• The aim of blended learning is to create more personalized learning

environment.

• It is also known as Hybrid learning.

WHY BLENDED LEARNING?

 Traditional classroom can provide limited information.

 Sometimes it may be too easy and some time it may be too difficult for the
learner.
 So online content is included in the classroom.

Online content

 Move at own pace

 Familiar content Faster
 Unfamiliar content Pause Re-watch
 Use when most alert Early/Late
 Can take breaks when needed
MAJOR DIFFERENCES

TRADITIONAL BLENDED

 Time based  Mastery based

 All students get same material,  Give as much time as needed for
same time…. each student
 All move at the same pace  All move at their own pace
 Individual performance gap in  Students move forward when
learning ready
BLENDED LEARNING MODELS

Blended learning can be implemented in many unique ways generally

using a combination of one or more of the following models.

1. Face-to-face Driver
2. Rotation
3. Flex
4. Online Lab
5. Self-Blend or “A La Carte”
6. Online Driver or “Enriched Virtual”
Face to Face Driver

• Teacher delivers most

content via face to face
interactions.
• Course material is
supplemented with
online resources.
• Online work can be
done at home, in
computer labs, or within
the classroom.
• More traditional, less
virtual.
Rotation
• Students rotate between
different learning
stations.
• More often used in
elementary education
settings.
• Learning stations
include traditional face
to face teaching,
individual computer
work, small group
activities, and computer
labs.
• Often uses software
programs to guide
learners & individualize
content.
Flex

• Often used for at-

risk students.
• Learning mostly
occurs online.
• Teachers on-site to
offer support.
• Breakout rooms
and small group
sessions for extra
help.
• Usually self
paced.
Online Lab

• Students learn all

online, but at a
dedicated on-site
computer lab.
• Adult supervisors are
present, but are not
trained teachers.
• Cost cutting measure.
Self Blend

• Most often used in high

schools.
• Allows students to take
courses not offered in
their school.
• Supplements traditional
school with online
courses.
• Often used to take
Advanced
Placement(AP) classes
not offered at the
school.
Online Driver

• Students work online at

home for most content
delivery.
• Students come in face
to face for additional
support, labs, or
assessments.
• Offers flexibility and
independence.

 Technological dependences.

 Negative impact on teachers due to overwork.

 Plagiarism and credibility problems.
