Autonomous vehicles have the potential to revolutionize transportation by reducing accidents, traffic, and emissions. Fully self-driving cars are being developed that use sensors like LIDAR and cameras along with artificial intelligence to navigate roads without human input. While autonomous vehicles could create new mobility options and improve safety, challenges remain regarding costs, infrastructure changes, and legal frameworks to allow widespread adoption of the technology.

AUTONOMUS CAR

INTRODUCTION:
• Autonomous car is an automated or autonomous vehicle
capable of fulfilling the main transportation capabilities of
a traditional car without human input.
• 10 million autonomous vehicles will hit the roads by 2020
• In 10 years fully autonomous vehicles will be the norm
• Autonomous cars will generate a $7 trillion annual
revenue stream by 2050
• Widespread adoption of autonomous cars could lead to a
90% reduction in vehicle crashes
WHAT IS AN AUTONOMOUS CAR?

• it is a vehicle that can drive itself from one point to

another point without driver , inother words car with an
autopilot system.
1. Can steer itself.
2. Can accelerate itself.
3. Can go &stop itself.
HISTORY AND RECENT DEVELOPEMENTS:

HISTORY:
• First driverless car proposed by generalmotors in 1939
• In 1925 haudina lab discovered radiocontrolled
driverlesscar
DEVELOPMENTS:
• January 2017 – Keolis and NAVYA, in partnership with the
city of Las Vegas, launched the first autonomous car.
• January 2018 – Toyota announces “e-Palette” concept vehicle
which is a fully electric autonomous vehicle that can be
customized by a partner for applications such as food deliveries
(Pizza Hut), ride-sharing (Uber), or store fronts (Amazon).
January 2018 – Udelv, a Bay Area tech company, completed the
first delivery ofgoods by a self-driving car when it delivered
groceries in San Mateo.

• February 2018 – Hyundai announced that a fleet of its fuel cell

electric cars made asuccessful fully automatated cars.
REASONS FOR AUTONOMOUS CARS:

• Driver error is the most common cause of road

• accident
• Nearly 1.25 million people die in road accident each year,
that is one person is killed every 25 second
• Using cell phone during driving, drink&drive are the
reason for the roadaccident
• So, to solve this all problem Autonomous car is useful for
us .
SOFTWARE AND ALGORITHMS:

• Various software and algorithms are used in autonomous

car One such technique is SLAM which is abbreviation for
Simultaneous Localization and Map Building.
• Used for solving a problem as to if it is possible for an
autonomous vehicle to start in an unknown location in an
unknown environment and then to incrementally build a
map of this environment while simultaneously using this
map to compute absolute vehicle location.
WORKING:

• It is controlled bycomputer
• It require input or instruction from human
• After giving input or instruction it will drive automatically.
COMPONENTS:

• Google map

• Hardware sensors

• Arrtificial intelligence software

GOOGLE MAPS:

• Google maps interacts with GPS & acts like data base
• Speed limits
• Upcoming obstacles
• Traffic report
• Directions
• Nearby collisions
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE:

• Determines
1)How to accelerate ?
2)When to slow down /stop
3)when to steer the wheel
*Goal
Take the passenger to the destination safely
SENSORS USED:

• 1)LIDAR

• 2)Video camera

• 3)Position estimator

• 4)Distance sensors
LIDAR-”EYES” OF AUTONOMOUS CAR:

• It is a heart of system
• Light detection and ranging
• Optical remote sensing technology
• Scanning distance of 60 meters
• Road line markers and stop line with an accuracy of 2
inches
VEDIO CAMERA,(POSITION,DISTANCE) ESTIMATORS:

• Mounted near rearview mirror to detect road signs and

traffic lights , speed limits
• It also has computer on the board of vehicle to recognise
obstacles such as cyclist,&pedistrian
• position estimators are used to locate the positions of
vechiles
• Distance estimators are used to identify the distance
between vechiles and maintain a minimum distance.
ADVANTAGES:

• Reduce road accident,journey time

• Elimination of driving licenses
• Auotomatic parking
• Environment friendly
• Fewer traffic collisions
• Vehicular Communication together with autonomous
carsystem will eliminate the need of traffic signal and
other traffic requirement.
DISADVANTAGES:
• implementation of legal framework and establishment
of government regulations for self-driving cars.
• Susceptibility of car’s navigation system to different types
of weather.
• Current road infrastructure may need changes for
autonomous cars.
• diminish the use of public transport
• High Cost
• If cars will drive themselves what will people do?
CONCLUSION:

• Competition like DARPA and companies like Google,

Mercedes are fueling the development.
• The autonomous car have numerous advantages,
• Ever decreasing cost of technology, and involvement of
big automotive giants.
• 4 states in USA namely Nevada, Florida, California, and
Michigan, along with District of Columbia who have
successfully enacted laws addressing autonomous
vehicles
