Mt. Asog, also known as Mt. Iriga, is an old volcano in the province
of Camarines Sur, Bicol Region. Although it is outshined by the
world-famous Mt. Mayon to the south and the higher, grander Mt.
Isarog to the north, it possesses its own charms. For one, the views
at the peaks are breathtaking, offering a view of Mt. Mayon, Mt.
Malinao, at Mt. Masaraga on the south.
Mt. Asog has a colorful history. It was named after a ancient datu
(chieftain) of the Agtas named Asog, who reigned over the region.
Sometimes it is also called Mt. Sumagang, which means “Mountain
of the Rising Sun”.

Budiao Ruins
Just about two kilometers away from the bell tower of Cagsawa Church
are the ruins of the town of Budiao, another place buried by the lava
flow that came from Mayon Volcano that fateful day of February 1, 1814.
Only a very small section of the church protrudes above ground and on
the edge of a village road. The town of Budiao gained popularity during
the Spanish colonization period because it was there that the foreign
colonizers set up an arena for bullfights.
Japanese Garden
Japanese Garden
Derived from the local Bicolano dialect, meaning “to blow” and due to the
good ventilation of air that passes from opening points of the cave, the
word “Hoyop” was given by the locals to this cave, thus becoming Hoyop

Catholic Archdiocese of Caceres.

Sili Ice Cream
Albay’s ice cream collection in First Colonial Grill in Daraga town. With flavors like gabi,
malunggay, and pili, you will notice right away that the selection is not what you’d normally
find in a regular ice cream parlor.
They call it: the fiery sili ice cream, it’s ice cream made from hot chili! With spiciness levels
ranging from one to 10, you can choose to go mild or go all in.
Tilmok
is another famous food from the Bicol region. Tilmok is the Bicolano term for coconut meat.
The other main ingredient of the dish is crab meat.
The preparation of tilmok starts with the mixing of coconut meat and the crab meat
together. Garnishing is added after the meats are mixed. The mixed “meats” are put inside
banana leaves and then steamed. This delicious dish is popular among locals and even
foreigners.
