LIVING ZONE :
• Consists of student dormitories , a kitchen , dining areas
and a space for meetings.
• Dormitories face lake and are located at the southern tip of
the complex.
OPENINGS :
•Openings are recessed into shadow pockets which become the
dominant feature controlling and directing scale and
proportion throughout the building.
•The Amphitheatre, with a capacity of 750, is
planned for multipurpose activities - speech, music
or film. The seating is partly on a flat area with
removable chairs and partly on permanent tiers.
•Built in concrete , the building’s interiors interact
with the exteriors through a medium of concrete
arched skin that seems to wrap around , standing
lightly along the periphery giving the overall
building a certain lightness of form.
•The magnificence of the clear sky is brilliantly
framed through the circular rings supported on the
arches , carefully and precisely as one would stack
cards.
•Instead of concrete being rendered into a monolith ,
the facade displays a variety of textures in concrete
and stone.
•The building seems to be truly ahead of its time and
completely in compliance with Raje’s philosophy of
architecture which aimed at simplicity and honesty.
FLOOR PLAN
The honor of carrying on the work of a
master was a difficult challenge met in this
prestigious academic building.
The complex is organized around a
landscape court.
Three sides with guest rooms, teaching
block.
One side of the courtyard enclosed with a
brick wall and screen of tress.
Verandah-like terraces, broad arches,
courtyards, use of brick and exposed
concrete work synch this building with the
rest of IIM.
•The buildings are based on the repetition of 4.5 meter wide
structural bays roofed with a barrel vault concrete shell.
•This standardization allowed for a rapid and economical
construction process.
•The project also features an auction hall with raised
platform for loading and unloading procedure.
FLOOR PLAN
SECTIONS
The series of loggias making up the
dormitories do not open on the
courtyard placed in their centre in
order to achieve to maximum privacy.
The compound is enclosed by stone
walls and the building openings are
spanned by concrete lintels and are
deeply recessed to provide additional
shade.
The exposed stone facades and arched
lintels used throughout convey a
visual unity to the overall design.
