Nutrition of Cornea

The cornea receives nutrition from the perilimbal blood vessels and aqueous humor as it is an avascular structure. Oxygen is derived directly from the tear film and atmospheric air. The cornea's nerve supply is purely sensory from the ophthalmic division of the fifth cranial nerve via the nasociliary branch.
