Recommendations
For a LiDAR device to achieve Stage 3 maturity, it needs a body of experience in offshore
deployment in a range of environmental conditions. This was the first offshore deployment of
the LiDAR device. Repeated trials need to be conducted for better reliability and repeatability
of operations.
Maintenance strategy needs to be devised so that issues in the LiDAR device can be resolved as
soon as possible, if not real time. This is will result in higher pre and post-processed data and
system availabilities and higher data accuracy too.
The measurement campaign lengths for both the Jafarabad met mast and the LiDAR device
should be increased or continued. Alternatively, data from another nearby trusted reference
source such as a met mast which has a few years of data can be used to synthesise the wind
data at the Jafarabad met mast and the LiDAR device. This should be done so that even if the
13 month period in which the wind data was captured (November 2017 to November 2018 in
this case) happens to exhibit lower or higher wind speeds than what is usual at the site, then
this bias can be removed by synthesising data from the nearby reference source.
