 A letter written to a newspaper magazine, or
other periodical abut issues of concerns to
readers usually intended to be published in
the paper /periodicals
Format of a Letter to the Editor

 Complimentary Close

Subscription
  the act of signing one's name (as in
attesting or witnessing a document) Your
signature below your name is added to
validate the letter and it is the last part to the
letter to editor.
Complimentary close
 It is the way to end the letter and the
expression must match the salutation.
 For the letter to Editor, you can write:
 yours sincerely
 Yours faithfully without apostrophe and

comma.
Sender’s Address
 The address and contact details of the sender
are written at the top right hand side. Include
email and phone number, if required or if
mentioned in the question.

 Date is written below the address in DD-MM-
yy format
 Example:

Receiver’s Address
 Receiver’s address is written below date
leaving a line and it must address the
person’s designation followed by the name of
newspaper and the place.
 Example:

Subject of a Letter
 The subject of a letter to editor must be
precise and should not contain many words.
It must tell the reason of writing a letter to
the editor.

 Example: Rampant Use of Pesticides in


Agriculture
Salutation
 This is written after the subject and
sometimes it can also be written before the
subject. We may not know about the gender
of a writer so it is better to write for both
genders.

 Example: Dear sir/madam


Body of a Letter

 In the first paragraph it is better to write the


sentence that catches the attention of the
public and it is better to create or recite . If you
are able to create it is ok otherwise you can
recite the sentence: Through the column
Of your esteemed newspaper I would like to drawn
the attention of concerned authority towards
…… subject
In the second paragraph the problems should be
written with examples and the third paragraph
must request the editor to publish it.
