Syntax Material Fourth Group

Syntax refers to the rules that govern how words combine to form phrases, clauses, and sentences in a language. There are two important parts of a sentence in syntax analysis: phrases and clauses. Phrases include noun phrases, verb phrases, adjective phrases, and adverb phrases. Clauses include independent clauses, dependent clauses, noun clauses, adjective clauses, and adverbial clauses. Proper syntax involves constructing sentences that follow patterns like subject-verb-object and maintaining parallel structure, especially in lists.

Type of sentences structures
Types of sentences and their syntax modes
include simple sentences, compound

complex sentences. In English, a strong,
active voice sentence will always have the
subject doing the action of the sentence.
These sentences will follow a basic subject-
verb-object format.
Sentence examples
Simple syntax sentence:
• The boy jumped.
Compound syntax sentence:
• The boy jumped and the girl sang.
Complex syntax sentence:
• The boy jumped even though he was nervous.
Compound complex syntax sentence:

and he landed across the stream.
Parallel structure in sentences
When constructing sentences, it is important to always
keep in mind that ideas should be parallel. In English,
parallel structure is most often an issue when creating
a series list. Therefore, we will look at the example of
appropriate parallel structure through lists.
Correct example:
• He like running, jumping, and hiking.
Incorrect example:
• I like to run, jumping, and hiking.
