INSET 2019: Computer Literacy: Basic Application of Microsoft Excel (Electronic Class Record)

The document discusses the Philippines transitioning to a new electronic class record (ECR) system in line with DepEd Order No. 8 from 2015. It aims to standardize grading by replacing letter grades with numerical scores and tracking student progress based on learning standards. Teachers participated in consultation meetings to provide input on the proposed ECR format and layout, which uses pre-loaded Microsoft Excel formulas to compute final grades based on summative assessments. The new ECR system incorporates classroom assessment guidelines and aims to help teachers implement the DepEd's new grading policies starting in the 2015-2016 school year.

INSET 2019

COMPUTER LITERACY:
BASIC APPLICATION OF MICROSOFT EXCEL
(ELECTRONIC CLASS RECORD)
OBJECTIVE:

• TO ENSURE SUSTAINABILITY AND MINIMIZE

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY IN COMPUTING
GRADES USING ELECTRONIC CLASS RECORD
(ECR, e-Class Record).
Grading System Changes;
New E-Class Record in Use
• For SY 2015-2016, teachers started to replace grades A, P,
AP, D and B with numerical grading system as implemented
by the Department of Education (DepEd) on April.
• Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12
Basic Education Program (BEP) has two types, the Theoretical
Basis and Classroom Assessment. These processes are used
to keep track of learners’ progress in relation to learning
standards and in the development of 21st – Century skills.
• Classroom Assessment aims to help students perform
well in relation to the learning standards. It has
various types: the content standards, performance
standards, learning competencies, and the concept
development.
• Learners are assessed in the classroom through
various processes and measures appropriate to the
congruent learning competencies defined in K to 12
curriculum.
• Summative Assessments has three components:
the Written Work (WW), Performance Task (PT),
and the Quarterly Assessment (QA) that will be
computed and recorded in every grading.
• K to 12 Education Program uses standard- and
competency-based grading systems.
• Steps in computing for the Final Grades include first,
grades from all student work will be added up then,
the sum for each components converted to the
percentage score, PERCENTAGE SCORE (PS) = the
Learner’s total raw score divided by the Highest
possible score multiply by 100%.
• After that, Percentage Score are then converted to
Weighted Scores; Weighted Score (WS) =Percentage
Score multiplied by Weight of Component.
• An e-class record programmed with the
given formula was also introduced.
Adopting e-Class Record
for Students
• DepEd Order No. 8,series of 2015 qualifies what is
assessment in the classroom. It "aims at helping
students perform well in relation to the learning
standards... comprise content standards, performance
standards, and learning competencies" as delineated
in the curriculum.
• In so doing, the DepEd is going to implement
DepEd Order 8, s. 2015 for the opening of school
year 2015-2016. A series of consultation meeting
with selected school personnel/teacher were
held in three separate days and in three separate
venues.
• And it was a successful consultation meeting
with those selected teachers of various
grade level. Everything was tackled to meet
expected the standardization of a class
record with pre-loaded formula in Micrsoft
excel.
• The activities conducted were presentation
and critiquing of the proposed
contents/Format and formula of Standard
Class Record that is aligned with the
provision of DepEd Order No. 8, series 2015.
• Those selected representatives from chosen
regions were able to share their expertise
and knowledge and valuable experience in
the preparation of electronic class record.
“The process of adopting new e-class
record is very important on the way
to the success of teaching.”
