Greenhouse Effect: Greenhouse Effect: Retention of Heat in The Earth's

The document discusses the greenhouse effect and its causes and impacts. It explains that the greenhouse effect occurs when greenhouse gases like water vapor, methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere trap heat from the sun's rays, warming the Earth's surface. It then describes how the main greenhouse gases are produced from human sources like factories, vehicles, rice farming and cattle ranching. The rising levels of these gases are enhancing the greenhouse effect and increasing global temperatures, which will lead to sea level rise and ocean acidification that damage marine ecosystems.

GREENHOUSE EFFECT

Greenhouse effect: retention of heat in the Earth’s

atmosphere due to the presence of greenhouse
gases.

In this short presentation I will aim to explain; How the

greenhouse effect works, what causes it , what effect it
has on the environment, some of the ideas that have
already been suggested and my own personal idea on
how we could stop it.
WHAT IS THE
GREENHOUSE EFFECT ?
The greenhouse effect explains the temperature rise on the
earth, this is due to the trapping of greenhouse gases, that
allows most of the suns rays to reach the earth, and doesn’t
let many of them radiate back to space, think of a car on a
sunny day, when you get in the car always feels hotter than
outside, this is because the seats dashboard carpets etc, have
all absorbed a certain amount of energy and they are radiating
it back, but not all of the energy can escape back through the
windows, hence the car remains hotter than its surroundings.
Now we all know that the earths atmosphere is a little more
complicated than a car, its essentially the same, with oceans
plants and the ground itself absorbing around 70% of the suns
energy, with about 30 % being reflected from snowfields and
not getting past the atmosphere.
WHAT IS THE
GREENHOUSE GAS LAYER
MADE OF ?
The greenhouse gas layer is mainly made of water
vapour with ever increasing amount of methane and co2
being added due to our factories, cars , rice fields, cattle
farms etc.
EFFECT OF THE
GREENHOUSE EFFECT ON
THE ENVIRONMENT
The effect of the greenhouse gases on the environment is
that due to the ever increasing layer of gas building up in
the atmosphere, it is making it harder and harder for the
suns rays to escape back into space, consequently this
means that the temperature on earth will rise, the water
levels will rise, and the pH of the water will alter, killing
vast quantities of marine life.
SOURCES OF
GREENHOUSE GASES
The main sources of greenhouse gases are things like
factories, cattle, and cars really, anything that produces CO2
CH4 or water vapour is generally a source of greenhouse
gases.
