Powerpoint

This document provides an overview of magmatism and volcanism for students. It begins with objectives for the lesson, which are to explain how magma is formed, identify types of volcanic rocks, display scientific values, and create a flowchart on magmatism and volcanism. It then reviews related topics through activities like defining key terms and a video clip. Students are asked to create a flowchart explaining where magma is located, how temperature increases melting of rocks, how magma is ejected during volcanic eruptions, and how intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks form. The document provides rubrics for the flowchart and concludes by assigning homework researching geological hazards of volcanoes in a specific region.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
1. ROCKS - the solid mineral material forming
part of the surface of the earth and other similar
planets, exposed on the surface or underlying the
soil or oceans.
2. VOLCANO - a mountain or hill, typically
conical, having a crater or vent through which
lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are
being or have been erupted from the earth's crust.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
3.HOTSPOT- a small area or region with a
relatively hot temperature in comparison to
its surroundings.
4. PYROCLASTIC FLOW - a dense,
destructive mass of very hot ash, lava
fragments, and gases ejected explosively
from a volcano and typically flowing
downslope at great speed.

HOMEWORK
• Research about the location in Region III
that is prone to geological hazards being
brought by volcanic eruptions. The
following questions must be sufficed.
1. Are these places safe for building communities?
2. What are the geological hazards that may be
experienced by the locality?
3. How could precautionary measures help the
people lessen the impact of these hazards?
Do you have any other
questions?
Well!
It’s not the End!
But that is all for today!
