Experience of Bhel in Using Igcc Technology For Coal Gasification Based Power Generation

BHEL has gained experience in integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) technology for coal-based power generation through various pilot plants and demonstration projects over several decades. This includes operating a 6.2 MWe pilot plant from 1983 to 1992 to test a moving bed gasifier. From 1986 to 1997, BHEL operated a developmental testing pilot plant to develop circulating fluidized bed gasification technology. Most recently, BHEL retrofitted a 6.2 MWe plant with a circulating fluidized bed gasifier and is currently testing it to generate data for a larger commercial scale gasifier and IGCC plant design.

II. APPROACH FOR GAS CLEAN-UP
• While BHEL proposes to install cold gas clean-up equipment in
phase-I, funds should be allotted to go ahead for the development
of hot gas clean-up technology which is under development and may
be the ultimate solution for achieving higher efficiency
III. APPROACH FOR SIMULATION STUDIES

• BHEL proposes to carryout steady state & dynamic simulation


studies using packages like Aspen Plus and integrate the same with
the gasifier model being developed in-house.
