Optimization Lab Project 1-Semi-Batch Process Optimization Group No. 7

This document describes a semi-batch process optimization project involving the reaction of reactants A and B to form the desired product C. The process involves feeding reactant A into a reactor heated to 90°C and then adding reactant B semi-batchwise over 10 hours. A chemical engineer will use python programming to optimize parameters like dosing time, holding time, and heat transfer to minimize costs and maximize profits. The current process generates $358 crore/year but optimization is predicted to increase the cash flow to $702 crore/year.

QUICK LOOK AT THE REACTION
A + B                   k1              C         (desired)

             k2              D         (undesired)
B +  C

Initially reactant A is fed to the reactor and B is added to it semi-

batchwise once A reaches the reaction temperature of 90℃

PROFITS! ☹️
HERE COMES A CHEMICAL ENGINEER!

• With the help of python programming we can optimize the process

parameters such as :

• Dosing time and holding time

Optimization • Heat transfer characteristics

Economical And Environmental Friendly:

Concept of Sustainable Development
WHAT CAN BE DONE?

• By introducing heat effects in the current process we can obtain the right
amount of coolant water flowrate and right area of condenser required.
• We can optimize the holding time and the dosing time of the process.
• By such optimization the operating costs will be minimized.
• Regular maintenance of all the equipments used and continuous monitoring
of the market value of the equipments will minimize the fixed costs.
•Dosing time:10.22 hrs
•Holding time:000278 hrs
