FAITH JOURNEY:

FAMILY

TOPIC 2:

MARY
AND

RAISING
CHILD
JESUS
THE
HOLY FAMILY
• Holy Family is a perfect model
that we must imitate in our Faith
Journey.
• During the Octave (eight days) of
Christmas we celebrate the Feast
of the Holy Family. The
significance of the Feast becomes
much more meaningful when we
consider the deeper truths it
reveals. Yes, it teaches us about
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. But it
also speaks to each one of us how
to live differently in our own
families, make Jesus Christ the
center of our life together.

Holy Family's Day 2019
Disobedience was the first sin of the man that destroyed the
relationship between man and God, but the Holy Family
teaches us that total obedience will bring us back closer
to God. It is Joseph
It is Mary’s humble obedience that And it’s Jesus
“Yes” that bring the save Mary and obedience to give
salvation in Jesus. up His life for our
humans. salvation.
 Matthew Chapter 1 explains the Genealogy of
Jesus that Joseph comes from David – shows
God Faithfulness to his promise (2 Samuel 7:12-
16).
In the genealogy not all are good people. It is mixed with sinners and saints.
We are faced with the reality that we come from families which we all admit
that members (anak, asawa, tito, tita, lolo, lola or pinsan) are all imperfect.
Some of them are difficult to love.
The lineage of Jesus through Joseph highlight that “the Father of” means
God is with them. God can bring the full goodness out of every difficult to
love people.
 The Gospel of Holy Mass during years when
we follow Cycle A, is taken from the second
chapter of Matthew (Mt. 2:13-15, 19-23). It
tells of the journey of the Holy family to
Nazareth when, after being warned in a
dream by an angel, Joseph, the Guardian of
the Redeemer and Husband of Mary, steered
them away from threat of Herod and to the
town where the child would be raised and
fulfill another of the ancient prophecies, He
shall be called a Nazarean.

 Father role is to protect

and love His family as
what Joseph show to us.
Through prayers and
obedience from God’s
call will lead us closer to
God.
“Blessed are you who believed that was spoken
to you by the Lord would be fulfilled” Luke 1:45
FOUR CHURCH DOGMAS
ATTRIBUTED TO MARY’S
PROMINENCE AMONG WOMEN

“Blessed are you among women”

Luke 1:42
The blessings and
privileges of Mary come
from the anointing of
heaven but Mary’s own
response to her mission
made herself equally
blessed as we ourselves
can likewise be blessed.
Mothers are blessed with mission and purpose in life when they have decided to
say yes for the call of Family life.

We do not choose our mission in life it is God’s direction and lead us to embrace
this mission. Our daily tasks, jobs are meant to be offered to God. With humility
like Mary let say our “Yes” to God’s calling in our life.
Imagine if you were privileged to be
present when Jesus was an infant.  And
imagine if this infant looked at you, reached
out His arms and sought to be held by
you.  And imagine if this infant held you
tightly as He rested on your heart.  This
holy exchange of love will most certainly be
understood by parents as they hold their
children.
We often times see our children
as a burden. Reflecting on Child
Jesus resting in your arms you
feel the love of this sweet
embrace. This is an image of the
Love of God and a holy image.
Allow your own experiences of
holding a child to teach you
about the Mercy of God. And
express your own love for God
through this holy image of a
child’s embrace.
"Son, why have you done
this to us? Your father
and I have been looking
for you with great
anxiety." And he said to
them, "Why were you
looking for me? Did you
not know that I must be in
my Father's house?" But
they did not understand
what he said to them.He
went down with them and
came to Nazareth, and
was obedient to them;
and his mother kept all
these things in her heart."
(Luke 2:41-51)
Jesus left that temple and went home to Nazareth, where he
submitted Himself to the authority of Mary and Joseph and
established the Holy Family and the holy way of life they lived as a
model for the Christian family, a path to holiness, and the first cell of
His Church. There, he lived, learned and loved in a new temple where
God still dwells. Through God’s mysterious design, it was in that
family that the Son of God spent long years of a hidden life.
Wherever He is, God dwells.
He told us "Wherever two or three are
gathered in my Name, there I am in
their midst." (Matt. 18:20) The place
where that happens most often is in
the Christian family. Jesus lives in
our home.
NEW GENERATION OF FAMILY
CHALLENGES OF NEW GENERATION FAMILY
We are bombarded by negative influences
dailywww.highlandspringgroup.com quoted that the
average family spends only 32 MINUTES of time
together daily.
Negative Influences that Affect New Generation Families

Fatherless Home
Mother alone takes responsibility over children
due to death or as a result of bad marriage.

Many statistical studies use marital status as a

way to distinguish homes with fathers from
fatherless homes.
Single-parent households where the child lives
with the mother may technically be fatherless.
There are also some children who live with
their fathers, yet the man is emotionally distant
and rarely present physically, which means they
live in a fatherless home.

Signs of Teen Depression
•Problems at school. Depression can cause low
energy and concentration difficulties. At school, this
may lead to poor attendance, a drop-in grades, or
frustration with schoolwork in a formerly good student.
•Running away. Many depressed teens run away from
home or talk about running away. Such attempts
are usually a cry for help.
•Drug and alcohol abuse. Teens may use alcohol or
drugs in an attempt to “self-medicate” their depression.
Unfortunately, substance abuse only makes things
worse.
•Low self-esteem. Depression can trigger and intensify
feelings of ugliness, shame, failure, and unworthiness.
•Smartphone addiction.Teens may go online to
escape their problems, but excessivesmartphone
and Internet use only increases their isolation,
making them more depressed.
•Reckless behavior. Depressed teens may engage
in dangerous or high-risk behaviors, such as
reckless driving, binge drinking, and unsafe sex.
•Violence. Some depressed teens—usually boys
who are the victims of bullying—can become
aggressive and violent.
•Teen depression is also associated with a number
of other mental health problems, including eating
disorders and self-injury.
While depression can cause tremendous pain foryour
teen—and disrupt everyday family life—there are plenty
of things you can do to help your child start to feel
better.

The first step is to learn what teen depression

looks like and what to do if you spot the
warning signs.

Fathers, on yourmulti-faceted role as Priest,

Provider, Protector and Governor to our
children, perhaps the most crucial in our times
is to be MENTORS!
Know how to deal with the LGBT agenda. Be
equipped to deal with persons with Same Sex Attraction
(SSA) especially in your family or your children’s friends.
Talk to them with sincerity we don’t hate them we love
them. But what we hate is the sin or activities that will
lead them to sin. Be aware and stand against the anti-
family attacks of media what the children see is what the
children will do.
What used to be wholesome lunchtime
variety shows are not promoting sexual
promiscuity and the LGBT lifestyle. The viewership
has increased thus big companies continue to bring in
money via advertisements.
Know the real issues about divorce, why we are
against it. Do not rely merely on obedience to the Church
Magisterium. Know the real issues and make sure
everybody knows it.
Stand your ground. A great majority of fellow
Catholics are indifferent about issues of immorality and
abuse of people in power. Be a beacon of light in your
neighborhood, office and other settings.

But even our tiny voices and our flickering light

will not be in vain for Jesus has promised us
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have
peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!
I have overcome the world.”John 16:33
PRAYING TOGETHER AS ONE FAMILY
The Catechism of the Catholic Church
emphasizes the importance of family prayer:
“The Christian family is the first place of
education in prayer. based on the sacrament
of marriage, the family is the ‘domestic
church’ where God’s children learn to pray
‘as the Church’ and to persevere in prayer.
for young children in particular, daily family
prayer is thefirst witness of the Church’s
living memory as awakened patiently by the
Holy spirit”(n. 2685)
FamiliarisConsortio (fC)stressesthefundamental and irreplaceable role
oftheconcrete, living example of parentsin educating theirchildren to
pray.“Only by praying togetherwith theirchildren can a father and a
mother(exercising royal priesthood) penetrate the innermost depths of
their children’s hearts and leave an impression that thefutureevents in
their lives will not be ableto efface”(FC, 60).
WAYS TO BUILD A PRAYERFUL FAMILY
Parents meditating Holy
Scripture. Ask yourself
“What is Jesus saying to me
in these readings?”
Afterwards, share these
reflections within family,
such discussion serves
each person’s appreciation
of the Scripture and the
active presence of the Lord.
It also draws family more
deeply together in God’s
truth and love.
•Rosary prayed as a family helps to
define and strengthen family
relationships. for in that prayer were
call the Incarnation of Jesus,
particularly as his life is revealed
through the mystery of the Holy
family, which the Christian family
seeks to image. We meditate on the
life of the son of God by calling on
the heavenly father as well as the
Mother of God.
“Simple habit
of prayer is 1
step closer to
God”.
You want to acknowledge the greatness of God

You feel grateful

You need to ask for help

You want to pray for others

You need healing, guidance and even a miracle

You feel the need or desire to

•Building family prayer habit like “God protect and
guide us today” every morning,
•Blessing the food by praying before family lunch or
dinner, or
•“Thanks for challenges today Lord and we are excited
with your surprises tomorrow” for every night before
everyone go to sleep.

This simple act of praying together with your family

witnessed by children, serves as reminder to them the
importance of unfailing thankfulness and constant, humble
dependency upon the grace of God.
Set a specific time within the day that
everyone is active and not sleepy,
what is 10 mins of your time compare
to your 1440 mins you have per day.
•Family life is filled with constant change that
prayer should consecrate.
consecrate “Joys and sorrows,
hopes and disappointments, births and birthday
celebrations, wedding anniversaries of the
parents, departures, separations and
homecomings, important and far-reaching
decisions, the death of those who are dear ,etc.
— all of these mark God’s loving intervention in the
family’s history. They should be seen as suitable
moments for thanksgiving, for petition, for
trusting abandonment of the family into the
hands of their common father in heaven”
(FC, 59).
