WINDOWS
- Are intended primarily to provide the building interior with
natural light and ventilation. They also enable the occupants to
have a view of the landscape outside.
- No room, which is not artificially ventiillated, should be withoout
a window. According to the National Building Code of the
Phillippines, each room should have a window that opens outside
the structure. The area of the window opening must at least be
10% of the floor area of the room. Thus if a room is 5 meters by 6
meters, the minimum area of the window/s would be:
- 5m x 6m x 0.10 = 3 square meters
TYPES OF WINDOWS
1. A casement is a window that is attached to its frame by one or more
hinges at the side. They are used singly or in pairs within a common
frame, in which case they are hinged on the outside. Casement
windows are often held open using a casement stay. Windows
hinged at the top are referred to as awning windows, and ones
hinged at the bottom are called hoppers.
2. Awning window is a window consisting of several top-
hinged sections arranged in a vertical series, operated by
one or more control devices that swing the bottom edges
of the sections outward, and designed especially to admit
air while excluding rain.
3. A double-hung window has two stacked, moveable sashes (the part
of the window that holds the pane). This allows the window to
slide down from the top and up from the bottom meaning both
sashes can open at the same time.
4. Sliding window a window that open by sliding
horizontally.
