The Bilaan or B`laan are a tribal
community of Southern
Mindanao. The Blaan (Bilaan,
Balud, Baraan, Biraan, Bilanes,
Blan, Buluan, Buluanes,
Koronadal, Sarangani, Taglagad,
Tagalagad, Tacogon, Tumanao,
Vilanes, Bubluan, Buluanes) are
principally located in the
province of Davao del Sur where
they number about 94,885.
TWO SUBGROUPS:
• To Lagad or highlanders
- boundaries of Davao del Sur, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat
provinces.
• To Baba or lowlanders
-coastal areas of Sarangani, General Santos City, and parts of Davao del
Sur in the municipality of Jose Abad Santos, Balut and Sarangani
Islands.

FACTS ABOUT B’LAAN
• Believe in the supreme being known as Melu or Dawata.
• Second group of lumads to migrate in the island of Mindanao next to the
To Bali.
• B’laan language (part of Tiruray and T'Boli group, distinct from language
of central Philippines)
• Speaks mostly Cebuano aside from B’laan language
• They did not succumb to datuships.
• Fulong – firstborn tribal chieftain ruled their tribe
• Their livelihood are farming, weaving (the males weave, baskets and
females weave, mats), fishing, hunting, food gathering and tool-land
weapon making.

• Famous for their rich and colorful cultural
heritage, ethnic art and handicrafts like brass
ornaments and traditional beadwork.
• They wear colorful costumes woven from abaca
decorated with embroidery, buttons, beads, and
heavy brass belts.
