TOOLS
What is ICT?
• ICT, or information and
communications
technology (or
technologies), is the
infrastructure and
components that enable
modern computing.
• all devices, networking
components,
applications and systems
What is Assessment?
 is the systematic
collection, review, and
use of information about
educational programs
undertaken for the
purpose of improving
student learning and
development.
(Assessment Essentials: planning, implementing, and
improving assessment in higher education by Palomba and
Banta 1999)
ICT AND ASSESSMENT IN
LEARNING

• ICT can be used (a) to deliver

traditional assessment formats
more effectively and efficiently,
and
• (b) to change the way
competences are assessed and
develop formats that facilitate
the assessment of competences
ICT AND ASSESSMENT IN
LEARNING
• ICT can be used to develop
tests such as computer-
based tests, computer
adaptive tests and test-
creation applications.
• ICT-based assessments may
also incorporate simulation,
interactivity and constructed
response formats.
TYPES OF ASSESSMENT

1. PRE -ASSESSMENT OR
DIAGNOSTIC
Your goal is to get to know your
student’s strengths, weaknesses
and the skills and knowledge they
posses before taking the instruction.
Based on the data you’ve collected,
you can create your instruction.
TYPES OF ASSESSMENT

2. FORMATIVE
 Is used in the first attempt of developing
instruction. The goal is to monitor
student learning to provide feedback.
 It helps identifying the first gaps in your
instruction. You’ll know what to focus on
for further expansion for your
instruction.
TYPES OF ASSESSMENT
3. SUMMATIVE
 is aimed at assessing the
extent to which the most
important outcomes at the
end of the instruction have
been reached.
 But it measures more: the
effectiveness of learning,
reactions on the instruction
and the benefits on a long-
term base.

ASSESSMENT
TOOLS
Plickers

It is a simple tool that enables
teachers collect real time
formative assessment data
without the need for student
devices.

WHAT IS IT?

• Plickers is a rapid-response
classroom-polling app that lets
teachers use one mobile device to
scan paper cards for student
responses. There are iOS and
Android apps as well as a web
interface.
WHAT IS IT?

• Teachers can create single

questions on the fly or select
a set of questions from their
personally curated libraries
to add to their queue.
HOW CAN I TEACH WITH THIS TOOL?

• Great lessons begin and

proceed with well-thought-out
questions, and Plickers can
help teachers revamp warm-
ups, quick checks, and exit
tickets while collecting
valuable data to help them
monitor student progress.
HOW CAN I TEACH WITH THIS TOOL?

• Start or end class in a

meaningful, engaging manner
by asking insightful,
thoughtful questions, or
challenge students to create
questions to be used for quick
reviews of information or
texts.
ZIPGRADE
• ZipGrade turns your phone or
tablet into an optical grading
machine similar to a Scantron.
It reads free-to-download
answer sheets in multiple sizes.
• Provide instant feedback to
students by grading exit
tickets, quizzes, and formative
assessments as soon as they
finish.
What is in Zip Grade?
• Quick, Accurate, and Organized
• Instant Feedback
• Cost Effective
• Flexible
B.
TOOLS IN
EVALUATING
APPROPRIATE
ASSESSMENT
TOOLS
1. Checklist
 is the least complex form of scoring
that examines the presence or
absence of specific elements in the
product of a performance.
 All elements are generally weighted
the same and the gradations in quality
are typically not recognized.
2. Rating Scale

• incorporates quality to the

‘elements’ in the process or
product which can be numeric or
descriptive. Unlike checklists,
rating scales allow for attaching
quality to ‘elements’ in the process
or product.
• E.g. poor, average, fair, excellent
3. Rubrics

 is a chart or matrix which includes indicators

that describe different levels of achievement
for the major components or ‘elements’ of a
performance.
 A typical rubric contains a scale with a range
of possible points for assessing work.
3. Rubrics

 Usually high numbers are associated

with strong student performance and
low numbers with poor student
performance.
 Rubrics also use descriptors to assess
student mastery and performance
levels.
4. Peer and Self- Assessment-

 helps students reflect on their

learning throughout the course of an
academic term or year
 used for reflection and
documentation of the learner’s
growth
