Saad FIS Presentation

This document discusses various topics related to bio-inspired and wearable technologies. It begins with introducing the group members and topics to be covered, which include wearable technology, bio-inspired networking, biometrics for secure e-transactions, and bio-molecular computing. For each topic, it provides definitions and examples. Wearable technology is defined as electronic devices that can be worn or implanted to be hands-free. Bio-inspired networking takes inspiration from biological systems to solve networking problems. Biometrics can securely authenticate users for e-transactions based on physiological traits. And bio-molecular computing uses DNA and enzymes rather than silicon for information storage and processing.

TOPIC:

What is Wearable Technology? What is Bio-inspired

Networking? How does Biometrics work in SECURE e-
transaction? What is Bio-Molecular Computing?
What is Wearable
Technology?
Wearable
technology:
Wearable Technology , also
known as "wearables", is a
category of electronic devices
that can be worn as accessories,
embedded in clothing,
implanted in the user's body, or
even tattooed on the skin. The
devices are hands-free gadgets
with practical uses, powered by
microprocessors and enhanced
with the ability to send and
receive data via the Internet.
Examples:
• Safety wearables
• Smart watches
• Fitness trackers
What are WEARABLE
BIO-SENSORS?
WEARABLE BIO-
SENSORS:

Wearable Bio Sensor is an

analytical devise that can be
worn on body for detection
of analyte .
e.g., Blood Glucose Detector
Examples:
• Google’s smart lens is an example of
eyewear that functions as a biosensor
because the eye contains blood vessels that
can be read to reveal, for example, blood
sugar level.

• Ring sensor allows one to continuously

monitor heart rate and oxygen saturation.
The device is shaped like a ring.

• A biosensor can also be worn around the

upper arm, where it can sense blood
pressure and sweat content.
What is bio-inspired
networking?
bio-inspired networking:

• The term bio-inspired has been introduced to demonstrate the

strong relation between a particular system or algorithm, which
has been proposed to solve a specific problem, and a biological
system, which follows a similar procedure or has similar
capabilities.
• Bio-inspired networking is a class of strategies for efficient and
scalable networking under uncertain conditions.
Typical problems that can be tackled with bio-inspired solutions are
characterized by the:
• Absence of a complete mathematical model
• Large number of (inter-dependent) variables
• Non-linearity
• Combinatorial or extremely vast solution space
Examples:
• Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs)
• Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs)
• Swarm Intelligence (SI)
• Artificial Immune System (AIS)
• Cellular Signaling Pathways
How does Biometrics work in
SECURE e-transaction?
A biometric system is a recognition system, which makes a personal
identification by determining the authenticity of a specific
physiological or behavioral characteristic possessed by the user. This
method of identification is preferred over traditional methods
involving passwords and PIN numbers for various reasons:
• The person to be identified is required to be physically present at the
point of identification.
• Identification based on biometric techniques eliminates the need to
remember a password or carry an identity.
The following examples are some of the biometric modalities that
may help an ecommerce website to tighten their security measures
by replacing old and easily crack able authentication procedures

• Fingerprint identification
• Voice biometrics
• Facial recognition
• Palm-print or hand geometry
What is Bio-Molecular
Computing?
Bio-molecular computing:
• BIO Molecular computing is an emerging field to which chemistry,
biophysics, molecular biology, electronic engineering, solid state
physics and computer science contribute to a large extent.
• It involves the encoding, manipulation and retrieval of information at
a macromolecular level in contrast to the current techniques, which
accomplish the above functions via IC miniaturization of bulk devices.
What is DNA computer:

• A nano computer that uses DNA (deoxyribonucleic acids)

to store information and perform complex calculations.
• It uses enzymes as program that processes on the DNA
molecules which is input data.
How bio-molecular computing works:

Bio molecular computing uses biological molecules like DNA

(the very essence of life) as opposed to traditional silicon
chips used today. In this emerging interdisciplinary field that
brings together computer science, biology, chemistry and
mathematics can revolutionize our digital world.
