Bill Gates is an American business magnate, philanthropist, author, and chairman of Microsoft. He dropped out of Harvard University to co-found Microsoft with Paul Allen. Microsoft developed the operating system for IBM's first personal computer and later launched the Windows operating system. Gates led Microsoft to become the world's largest personal computer software company. He stepped down as CEO in 2000 and now focuses on philanthropic work through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
