Attitudes and Job Satisfaction

Attitude
• Evaluating statements or judgments concerning objects,
people, or events.
• As I say I like my job negative or positive

Main components of Attitude:


• Cognitive ( evaluation/ opinion) thinking/knowing
mental part
• my pay is low
• Description/belief the way things are, small house
but (ok) insensitive Facts
• Affective (feeling) feeling or emotional part I
m not happy with it or happy with it
• Cognition and affect are closely related
• As one feel about friend always good no
matter how much the problems are

• Behavioral (action) intention to behave in


certain way I am going to get better paid job
• Does Behavior always follow the attitude?
Cognitive Dissonance: incompatibility between two
attitudes or between behavior and attitude
People do try to have consistency between attitude and
behavior to have less discrepancy so to be satisfied
Though earlier people tend to think the coherence between
thinking or attitude and behavior
But later it got separated
As is the case with Tobacco companies
Cheating in papers
Reduce dissonance
• Depends on the moderating factors
• 1. importance of element study hard to get
good job
• 2.Degree of influence we believe we have over
them or they can control something
• 3. Reward high rewards with high dissonance
tends to reduce the tension
Moderating variables
• Importance of attitude, fundamental values or
attachment to a group like our parents, country
• Correspond to behavior,
• Whether u continue with this job for one month
actually asking for turnover
• Accessibility, attitudes our memory can easily
access leads to behavior, more u talk about more
u more likely to remember and more likely to
behave PSL
• Social pressure .,tend to increase when social
pressure force u to behave in certain way
against union but join union

the degree to which employees believe an

an employees involvement with, satisfaction with and
enthusiasm for the work he does.

people r satisfied not eastern bcz west they see positive
