Sexualharassment

Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature, especially by a person in authority towards a subordinate. It is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Common behaviors include inappropriate touching, sexual jokes or comments, and pressure for sexual acts. Around 4.5 million students experience sexual harassment by school employees each year. School policies prohibit harassment and allow students to report incidents to teachers or administrators. Both men and women can be victims or harassers. Sexual harassment has negative impacts on victims such as anxiety, depression, and absenteeism from school or work. Prevention includes training, policies, and taking complaints seriously.
