Radiography Permit
• Ensure that all the radiography jobs and other jobs involving radio-active
source in refinery is properly authorised.
• Make the person/s doing the work fully understand/s the hazards and risks
involved.
• Ensure that the person responsible for the operation area is fully aware of the
work being done or to be done in his area.
• Provide a written record to show that the method of work or job safety
analysis has been done and the precautions needed.
SCOPE
• The Radiography Permit shall be issued for all the routine, non-routine
radiography and other jobs involving Radio-active source. Radiography
permit is required in the Process, Utilities and Oil Movement areas and
all other areas of refinery including buildings.
PROCEDURE:
• The Radiography is done to check the pin hole, thickness of the piping,
vessels tanks etc. This is normally done by inspection section.
• The inspection personnel will contact the concerned Area Supervisor for
issuing a Radiography Permit.
• The Radiography will preferably be done during meal hours or night, to
minimize the exposure of the personnel to the Radiation.
• Radiography will normally be carried out by competent contractor’s
personnel who will perform the radiography under supervision of the
Inspection section (Authorized User).
• Radioactive sources must be stored, handled and used in accordance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Originating Authority is responsible for issuing the Radiography permit.
• The Authorized user is responsible for ensuring strict compliance with this
procedure by all his subordinates and contractors.
• Radiography Equipment and Fire equipments required
• Radiation safety signs were installed
• Work location barricaded
• Dosimeter are provided
• Other safety equipment provided
• Stand by person’s presence
• The contractor personnel carrying out the Radiography are responsible for strict
compliance with the precautions specified on the permit.
• RPO is responsible for auditing and updating this procedure as required.
PERFORMING RADIOGRAPHIC WORK:
• Inspection personnel/Instrument Personnel shall give prior notice to the RPO
(Radiation Protection Officer) of any requirement to bring radioactive sources onto
the site and obtain approval.
• Authorized User will request the permission of the Area Supervisor / Group Head to
carry out the work.
• The Originating Authority, on giving permission for radiography, shall complete the
Radiography permit in conjunction with the classified person.
• The Authorized User will be the Accepting Authority of the permit and the contractor
will sign the permit as Performer.
• The work can then proceed in strict compliance with the precautions specified in the
permit.
• On completion of the work, the performer and Accepting authority will sign off the
permit.
VALIDATION OF RADIOGRAPHY PERMIT:
