ABSTRACT
• Due to enormous need by the public, water has to be stored and supplied according to their needs.
• Water tanks are widely used for storing portable water.
• Due to scarcity of water, more importance is given to water storage projects.
• Water tank is designed for a village (i.e., Jameen Kothapalem) to serve the needs of people and it
is designed based on population and water demand.
• Overhead circular water tank is designed as per limit state method.
• In this project, analysis and design of overhead water tank is performed by using STAAD Pro and
ETABS software and compare the results.
• The limit state method provides more effective reinforcement and it is economical.
INTRODUCTION
• Water tanks are mostly used to store water and serve the public to fulfilling their needs.
• Based on location, the water tanks are generally classified as
a) Tanks resting on the ground,
b) Under ground tanks,
c) Elevated or overhead tanks.
• Based on shape, the water tanks are classified into rectangular and circular tanks.
• Water demand is fluctuating hour to hour. So, take the average per-capita demand to estimate the
maximum daily demand.
• In the construction of concrete structure for the storage of water and other liquids, the imperviousness of
concrete is most essential. To make water tanks impervious, wider cracks should be avoided.
• The decrease in water cement ratio will be desirable to decrease the permeability.
• In this project, we are adopting circular water tank for storing of water.
OBJECTIVES
• To analyse and design water tank using STAAD Pro and ETABS software.
• To observe the BMD, SFD, deflection diagrams for different loading conditions i.e.,
seismic load, wind load, water pressure and dead load.
• To compare the results obtaining from both STAAD Pro and ETABS software.
LITERATURE REVIEW
• Miss. Neta K. Meshram, Dr. P.S. Pajgade (2014) were done a work on “Comparative study of
water tank using LSM and WSM”. They carried out work on design of circular and square water
tanks. They observed that cost requirement is less in case of limit state design and circular water
tank is more economical compared to square tank.
• Chirag N. Patel and Mehul S. Kishori (2016) were published a paper on “Analytical and software
based comparative analysis of on ground circular water tank”. In this study, they observed
actual behaviour of tank subjected to static loading condition with special emphasis on IS: 3370
and also compare the results with finite element analysis in STAAD Pro software.
• Tejaswini R, Mamatha A (2020) were carried out a work on “Design and analysis of elevated
water tank”. They adopted IS:3370 limit state design for their work. They designed a elevated
rectangular RC water tank under LSM and analysis was carried out using linear static and linear
dynamic analysis using ETABS software.
• Manoj Nallanathel, B. Ramesh, L. Jagadeesh (2018) were published a paper on “Design and
analysis of water tank using STAAD Pro”. In this paper, they discussed about design of water
tanks of both overhead and underground tanks of rectangular, square and circular shapes were
designed and analyzed using STAAD Pro software and also concluded that influence of shape
factor in design loads, stress distribution and overall economy.
