Action Five
Execute
• Run slowly
• Check counter and weight indicator often
• Visualise downhole scenario
• Do not pass calculated top of wire
• Maximum 5 ft to ball wire
• Always tubular jars
• Always jar up to shear tool on grab

Unable to remove device using standard techniques
Why?
• Well Limitations •Wire
• Well Conditions •Toolstring

Special tools
Blind box
2’
A blind box is used for heavy downward jarring
3’
It is flat bottomed and hardened.
5’
The blind box can be used as a drop bar for a wire cutter
or run on Slickline to dislodge a Fish or push downhole.

Special tools
The go-devil is similar in appearance to slickline stem

Special tools
The Kinley Snepper is used to cut slickline wires at the
rope socket when the toolstring has become stuck or
cannot be retrieved
The tool is available in either a 1 1/2” or 1 7/8” OD.

The BDK safe joint / releasable rope socket has been
designed for use as a standard item in the slickline toolstring.

If you have a 45degree deviated well and you pull
the maximum limit of your wire will you be able to
lift the wire from the tubing wall on the low Side.

Special tools
The wireline finder is a one piece tool designed to
locate and ball the broken end of the wire.
The wire finder can be either solid or the skirt can
be multi- fingered as in the slotted skirt design.

The finder / grab is used in the same way as the conventional
wireline grab to retrieve broken wire from downhole.

Special tools
Tube Jar
• Replaces the standard Mechanical (Spang)
• Tubular jars are used mostly in connection with
jarring debris and other foreign matter from
casing and large bore tubing.
• Design reduces chances of jars becoming
immobile

Special tools
Side Wall Cutter
• Used to cut wire against the tubing wall
when a clean rope socket is not available.

TOW Calculations
The operator is latched onto a plug when the wire breaks.
(Assume no strain on the wire, which is not likely but must be
assumed to enable calculations to be made.) The wire is 0.092”
in 2 7/8” tubing. the Operator pulls the broken end back to the
counter and checks the reading, = 4850ft. Lubricator height =
24ft, distance from unit to wellhead = 60ft.
T = [ D - ( C + d) ] + ( C + d x f ) + H

TOW Calculations
for our example above : f = 0.092” wire in 2 7/8” tubing = 12ft / 1000ft
C = 4850 ft
d = 60 + 24 + 24 = 108
H = 0 (if the tools did not drop when the wire broke)

TOW Calculations
T = [ D - ( C + d) ] + ( C + d x f ) + H
1000
T = 6542 + 71.5
T = 6613.5ft
