Reflection of Work
• What animal did you decide on and why?
I Chose the kiwi. I chose this animal because not many Australians know about them. Though they
are technically a New Zealand bird they are also a staple in Australian art, history and life.
• What did you use to create your artwork?
At first I started doing a mixed media art piece using acrylics, watercolour pencils, pens and
markers, and oil pastels. I then shortly realised that it using all of these materials would be very
time consuming or wouldn’t look as nice as I hoped. So instead I used alcohol markers.
• What symbols have you used? Do they tell a story?
I used a lot of animal tracks and stars to symbolise when living things die they become stars, as
this was a very common aboriginal belief. I also used a lot of campsites to symbolise the fact that
humans hunt and slaughter animals. The story is that the kiwi is sad because its family has
slaughtered by the hunters and how it wants to become a star (very dark, I know).
• Are you happy with the outcome of your work? Why or why not
I am happy with the outcome. I like the fact that the light sky blue and light green are the focal
