Does the word ‘than’ in the sentence show that there is a comparison?

1. Think about the range of words that can be formed from that stem.
What words come to mind when the word is ‘compete’?
Competition, competititve, competitor…

2. Check what is in front and behind the gap, it will give you a hint.
There is an article (an) before the gap, does this mean it needs a noun?
There is a gap before a verb, does that mean it needs an adverb?

3. Look at what might be missing.


Does this sentence have a verb, an article, a pronoun…?

4. Read the sentence completely and understand what it means.


Do I need the opposite of the word that is given? (polite  impolite)

TIPS

1. Read the text before you read the answers and think of your answer before
you read the different options.

2. Read the questions carefully to have an idea what to look for.

correct answer. They will try to trick you this way.

4. You will be asked to think about opinions and feelings of the characters.
This is not literally in the text. Try to read between the lines.

2. Look at the linking words, they can predict if you are talking about
contrasting ideas, cause and effect or they can show you if an example is
needed.

1. You will mostly scan the text to find the answers to the questions. Make
sure you understand by skimming through the text first.
