History of Athletics and The Track & Field

Athletics originated as the oldest form of organized sports in Ancient Greece between the 10th-9th centuries BC. Track and field events were first included in the Olympic Games in 776 BC. While no single inventor exists, the first winner of an athletics event was the Greek cook Koroibos in an early Olympic foot race. Athletics grew popular over centuries but died out after the Roman emperor banned the Olympics in 394 AD. Track and field was reestablished as a modern sport in 19th century England and continues as an international competition governed by standardized rules.

Which Country started Athletics?

The country that started athletics was in Greece,
especially in Ancient Greek. Historians estimate
that the origins of athletics (track and field events)
can be traced back to the 10th and 9th centuries B.C
in Greece.

By the year 776 B.C, athletics had became

popular enough that it was included in the first
ever Olympic games, held in Olympia, Greece.
Which Country started Athletics?

Over the next couple of centuries athletics
continued developing spread to Italian region
around 200 B.C. The Ancient Greek Olympics and
athletics lasted until 394 A.D. when it was banned.
So the Greeks started athletics and then thanks to
the Roman Empire it eventually spread across
Europe and further develop over the past two
centuries with the emergence of the Modern
Olympic game.
Who invented Athletics?

The inventor of athletics is not especially know,
but there is one person who win in athletics events,
and it is Koroibos. Koroibos was a greek cook that was
from the city of Elis. He won the stadium race which is
a foot race that was 600 feet long.

So while there wasn’t one person to invent the

sport of athletics Koroibos was the first winner. This is
believed by some historians to be the only athletics
event at first 13 Olympic in Ancient Greek.
When was Athletics Established?

Athletics for 11 centuries from 776 B.C to 394
A.D. was an extremely popular event in Greek
Olympics. But, in 394 A.D. the Roman emperor
Theodosius banned the Olympic Games, and so
athletics died out for roughly 1,500 years.

Then during the 19th century in England track

and field as a modern sport came back and
started developing.
When was Athletics Established?

In 1886 the first English Championships were
held for athletics by the newly created Amateur
Athletic Club whose rules still serve as the basis
for athletics today.

Still today the Amateur Federation continues

keeping up the rules, approving world records,
and ensuring the amateurs code is adhere to for
athletics.
