VALUE
Old buildings, specially old churches,
always amazes me. The intricate details on
walls, ceilings and floors felt like they are giving
you a little piece from its history, like how old
they are or what experiences it had gone
through.

It is a shame that I can not personally

but from the angle of the camera, the details
like the mosses and the stains really gives off
the vibes of beautiful old building.

VALUE
From observing the image, I can see a hint of
Romanesque architecture for its seemingly
thick walls, windows using round arches. I can
also see a bit of Gothic style for a bit of similar
design with The Basilica of St. Denis and Notre-
Dame De Paris from the circular window on top
of the entry door of the church.

HISTORICAL VALUE
According to a brief summary documentary
video from the OFFICIAL page of Sts. Philip and
James the Apostles Parish, the Parish was the
third one to be built in different site.

The first one, which was built in the year 1768

and called the “Nahulugang Kampana Ruins”

were destroyed by flood. It is located near
Lagonoy River and is now being kept in the
private land of Ontengco Family.

And in the year 1885, the second one to be
built in Barangay San Isidro. But, was later
abandoned due to unstable ground it is being
built.

HISTORICAL VALUE
And the third and present is the Sts. Philip and
James the Apostle Parish which was finished in
the year of 1874.

The roof was then destroyed by the Typhoon

Harriet in the year of 1960 but its
reconstruction were slow and was only finished

when Fr. Pedro Relloso became the Parish
priest. The Lagonoy is the only parish in
Caceres that majority of its people came from
Aglipayan Sect.

HISTORICAL VALUE
The Aglipayan sect started when former parish
priest, Vicente Ramirez actively joined the
movement made by Fr. Gregorio Aglipay in
which the Aglipayans took over the parish and
its properties. It was then cut short by Bishop
Jorge I Barlin who pushed the case to the court
and won. The parish and its properties were

SOCIAL VALUE
Because of its history, many people that lived
near the Parish still believes that being a
Catholic member is the same as being an
Aglipayan member. Thus, creating a lot of
confusion amongst the Lagonoyons, or the
people that lives in Lagonoy.

In the first day of the month of May, there is a
feast that is being celebrated by the parish.

It is the celebration of the anniversary of the

dedication of the church that is dedicated to
both St. Philip and St. James in the country of

SCIENTIFIC VALUE

The exterior walls are having molds such as

mosses that creates the feeling of really old
church, which in fact, it is. Although it was
rebuilt because it got destroyed by Typhoon
Harriet in 1960, the original design, structure
and materials are still intact together with the PHOTO AREA
church up to the present day.

PERSONAL IMPRESSION
I love the building. As I have said before, I
deeply enjoy engaging with old buildings just
like Sts. Philip and James the Apostle Parish.
Although it was only virtual, because of the
images that was taken in different angles, I can
