• Function: to state cause and effect in a sentence or text


• Cause:
1. The reason or motive, for an action
2. Why something happens
3. Happens first
• Effect:
1. Result or conclusion of an action
2. What happened
3. Happens due to a cause

Notes:
• ‘As’ and ‘since’ are very similar. ‘As’ is less formal than ‘since’
• The clauses that start with ‘as’ and ‘since’ often begin sentences
• ‘for’ never comes at the beginning of sentence
• ‘because’, ‘as’, ‘since’, ‘for’ are followed by complete sentences
• The connectors may be positioned at the beginning of sentences, we must use a comma
between the clauses
