The mass media are diversified media technologies
that are intended to reach a large audience by mass
communications.

The three functions of mass media are providing


information ,socialising and mobilizing.

Mass media include radio, TV, news papers, films,


audio & video cassettes etc.
Mass media has been universally characterized by four
attributes

These are:-

 Broad Appeal
 Speed
 Availability
 Low Cost
IMPORTANCE
 Provide information to the mass in less time.
 It takes a wide range of information regarding anything
that is happening in any corner of the world.
 It brings the entire world to the individual or to the class
room.
 Reach easily to groups, allow repeated use, give more
reality, influence attitudes, show cause and effect
relationships.
 It sends information to remote places and helps in distant
learning.
 It acts as an agency of social change.

 NEWSPAPER

 JOURNALS

 INTERNET
RADIO
 It is mainly used to broadcast events to far and wide
places of the world.
 A very important source of entertainment.
 Everyday we listen to many talks, discussions and
debates from radio. These are very useful.
 It stimulates curiosity and interest.
 The educational broadcasts are effective means of
presenting music, drama, and appreciation.
 Educational broadcasts are team teaching
demonstrations.
TELEVISION
 One of the most important and powerful agencies of
mass education.
 Educational television is the most recent audio-
visual media for class instruction.
 TV can give a very good idea of the history of the
country through dances, short films on historical
places and museums.
 It is capable of making available many needed and so
far inaccessible learning experiences.
 It can motivate both children and adults.
JOURNALS
 A journal refers to the periodical publications like

magazines. It also helps people in acquiring


knowledge.
 E-journals are digitalized journals which we can read

on the web.
 Considering their convenience and up- to-date

information, they are indispensable as a research tool.


NEWSPAPER
Newspapers are usually for a mixed age group of
readers and carry items of new and current affairs.
They contain sections for various categories of people.

Applications of newspapers are:-


 Current events study and analysis.
 Study of local, national and world problem.
 Practice in reading.
 Visual and pictorial support to classwork.
INTERNET
 It has become an inevitable source of information.
 It can be accessed by anyone at any time.
 Any kind of data can be collected at low cost.
 Through internet students can communicate with
any data giving resources.
 Students can gain from others’ knowledge and
experiences, participate in chat rooms, share ideas
and solutions etc.
 Internet helps in increasing language skills.
POSITIVE IMPACT
Motor skills are improved by typing, clicking, playing
games, and other tech related finger skills.
Hand eye coordination or even quick thinking can be
helped.
Access to mass news media can improve reading
skills.
Social network activity is theorized to improve
writing and socializing skills.
Enhanced education.
NEGATIVE IMPACT
Makes student dull and lazy.

Encourages mass learning without quality learning.

Many misleading and wrong information.

It poisons the learners with various unethical and

indecent contents in print or video form.


Reduces learning and research capability
