Dengue Guidelines For Diagnosis, Treatmentprevention and Control
Dengue Guidelines For Diagnosis, Treatmentprevention and Control
Presented by
Shaneworn B
Dengue is transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes and species aegypti and albopictus.
Dr Benjamin Rush a professor of chemistry and medical theory at the UPEN, during the Philadelphia
epidemic 1779 -1780 , first described the dramatic symptoms of dengue as break bone fever.
Etiology
Dengue infection is caused by dengue virus (DENV), which is a single-stranded RNA
virus (approximately 11 kilobases long) with an icosahedral nucleocapsid and covered
by a lipid envelope. The virus is in the family Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus, and the type
specific virus is yellow fever.
Dengue classification And Tests
Four dengue clinical
syndromes:
Undifferentiated fever
Classic dengue fever
Dengue hemorrhagic fever
Dengue shock syndrome
TESTS
NS-1 AG detection
RT- PCR Dengue hemorrhagic fever
serology
Symptoms of Dengue and Diagnostic Test Flowchart
Dengue prevention
1.Mosquito control:
o Reducing breeding sites
o Larva control
o Use of insecticide
3.Vaccine:
CYD-TDV is a formulation of four chimeric yellow fever 17D-dengue vaccine viruses. It
is administered in three doses at months 0, 6, and 12.
