Introduction
• In 1989, during the international
Congress on Peace in the Minds of
Men, in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’lvoire,
that the notion of a ‘’Culture of Peace’’
was first mentioned.
Introduction
• February 1994, UNESCO launched an
international appeal on the
establishment of right to peace.

• “Towards a Culture of Peace” program.


Introduction
• 1997, the United Nations General Assembly
proclaimed that the year 2000 as the
“International Year for the Culture of Peace”

• 1998, declared the period 2001-2010 the


“International Decade for a Culture of Peace
and Non-Violence for the Children of the
World”

• The school system is expected to
contribute to the development of
understanding, solidarity, tolerance,
and harmony among people and
promote knowledge, values, attitudes,
and skills conductive in respect for
human rights and to the building of a
culture of peace.

Different Levels of Peace
1. Personal Level
refers to the development of inner
harmony or inner integration.

2. Interpersonal Level
Is manifested by the relationship
of an individual with one another.
Interpersonal Level
• Assertiveness- the capacity of the
individual to express one’s views or
exercise one’s right without being
aggressive or submissive.

• Respect- to recognize the worth of others


regardless of differences in social position,
culture, origin, ethnic grouping or gender.
Interpersonal Level
• Concern for others- an awareness and
understanding of their needs, feelings,
and condition and extending appropriate
consideration for such.

• Cooperation- the capacity and willingness


to work with others to achieve a common
goal.
Interpersonal Level
•Open-Mindedness- the willingness to
approach difficult sources of information,
people, and events with a critical but open
mind.

•Humility- the virtue to accept and


recognize that others may have the ability
similar or maybe more than you have and
that recognition enables you to accept your
own limitations.
Social or National Level
Is concerned with addressing
issues that affect society and
its social, political, and
economic components.
Social or National Level
• Social responsibility- an awareness of one’s
responsibility for the common welfare and
the willingness as well as the readiness to
work for it.

• Interdependence- an awareness of the


impact of the decisions and actions of
individuals and groups on one another.
Social or National Level
• Social Justice- requires an awareness
and recognition of the civil, political,
economic, social, and cultural rights,
especially of the more marginalized
sectors of society and the willingness
to promote and defend them.
Global Level
• Is similar to the social and
national level peace, global level
peace is concerned with attaining
related issues that have global
impact or scale.
Global Level
• Respect for the Environment- the
value of recognizing the importance of
the sources in the environment as
indicated by the act of preserving and
conserving.
Global Level
• Unity in the oneness of Humankind- the
value of recognizing the importance of
being one with other humans as the
semblance of God’s power and love.

• Religious Appreciation- the ability to


respect and appreciate the presence of
people with religious beliefs other than his
own.

• Cultural Appreciation- a
recognition of the piece of
different cultures and such
differences give us the
opportunity to learn from one
another.
Strategic Approaches of
AFP in Winning Peace
• The primary objective of AFP
internal security operations shall
be Winning the Peace rather
than simply defeating the enemy.

• Winning the peace provides the


framework for the AFP’s new
approach to peace and security.

• As peace and security are
invisible, efforts towards
their attainment must be
shared by all.
People–Centered Security/ Human
Security Approach

• This internal peace and


security plan focuses on
the people.

Demonstrate how the interpersonal
level of peace (at least 2 terms) is
shown in your own experience.
