• List of standards
INTRODUCTION
• THE movement of people in buildings is becoming more complex as
buildings become taller and equipped with larger numbers of floors.
This can result in congestion in the elevator lobby and make the
elevators less punctual, thus exacerbating the problem of long waiting
times for users.
• This has led to strong demand from overseas markets for destination
floor reservation systems in which more efficient elevator operation is
achieved by having users specify their destination floor prior to
entering the elevator.
LIFT
• The lift is a type of vertical transport
equipment that efficiently moves
people or goods between floors
(levels, decks) of a building, vessel or
other structure.
• generally powered by electric motors
that either drive cables, hoist, or
pump hydraulic fluid to raise a
cylindrical piston like a jack.
GROUPING OF LIFTS
An elevator group consists of two or more elevators which are sharing the
same landing call buttons (and running under the same group controller).

PLACES WHERE LIFT LOBBY ARE USED

• Hospitals
• Residential
• Hotel
• Office
• Institution etc.
LIFT LOBBY
• Lift lobbies are one of the key
public areas in hotels, and it's
worth making a good
impression. ... In the hospitality
sector this most probably
means the reception area and
nearby restaurant and bar.
• The hotel's interior design will,
to a large extent, determine the
type of lighting you put in the
lift lobby
Advantages of lift lobby
• Reduces rush
• Time saver
• So many people can go at the same time
• Ease of transportation and goods etc.
Arrangements of lifts
Information to be Provided by Architect or Engineer

• The drawings of the building should give the

following particulars and finished sizes:
• Number, type and size of lifts and position of lift
well
• Particulars of lift well enclosure
• Size, position, number and type of landing
• Number of floors served by the lift etc.
DESIGN PARAMETERS
• The lift lobby should be designed appropriately since this has bearing on
the traffic handling especially when more number of lifts are involved.
• In a dual line arrangement (lifts opposite to each other) the lobby can be
between 1.5 times to 2.5 times the depth of one car.
• Typically, the more the number of lifts the bigger the multiple to be used.
• As an example a quadmplex may use 1.5 to 2 times where as an octuplet
will need 2 to 2.5 times.
LIFT LOBBY STANDARDS
• The lift lobby standards varies from place to place and what is the type of
building in which we need lift lobby.
• This also varies with the requirements and number of people going for
work from ground to upper floors or upper floors to ground floors.
• All materials, fittings, appliances etc. used in electrical installation shall
conform to Indian Standard specifications wherever these exist. In case of
materials for which Indian Standard specifications do not exist, the
materials shall be approved by the competent authority.
• For detailed specification for lifts, reference shall be made to accepted
standards.
