What is Slothfulness?
The word sloth is Derived from the word
acedia, meaning spiritual/mental slowness or
apathy,, It means without care or laziness.
when we refuse to work or put in the effort
altogether.

As the name suggests, sloth is the sin of


laziness. This laziness meant the same as
waste , whether the waste of time , ability
or resources.
It can also be seen as a waste of spiritual
opportunities or growth , since no effort
was put forth to preach , fight sin or grow
their relationship with God .
This is the opposite of virtue diligence .
Though this is not to be mistaken for
relaxation . In Fact the bible encourages
us to relax after a day's work . It only
becomes laziness
Where in the bible
can slothfulness be
found?
Proverbs 12:27-28 A lazy hunter does not
catch his prey, but a hard-working person
becomes wealthy. 
Proverbs 26:12-15 There is one thing worse
than a fool , and that is a man who is
conceited . The lazy man won’t go out and
work . “There might be a lion outside!” he
says. He sticks to his bed like a door to its
hinges! He is too tired even to lift his food
from his dish to his mouth!
Proverbs 13:4 
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets
nothing, while the soul of the diligent is
richly supplied
2 Thessalonians 3:10-11 While we were
with you, we gave you the order:
“Whoever doesn’t want to work shouldn’t
be allowed to eat.”
The bible does not encourage slothfulness. It says
that a man who doesn't not work should not  eat.
Sloth/laziness can harbor dependency on others, so
it is not only harmful to oneself but it also affects
the people around us.
People who are lazy tend to make up excuses for
being lazy, as seen in Proverbs 26:12-15. A lot
of people want to become wealthy, but being lazy
is not going to get you there , the bible says that
“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied”
as seen in Proverbs 13:4
Examples of Slothfulness in Our
Everyday Lives.
Not Doing Chores Around the House
Parents often assign tasks to their children to
complete around the house on the weekend . These
are normally simple tasks that do not take a lot of
time to complete . However, some children decide to
not do them.
This can cause disharmony within the home , and
parents may choose to employ punishments, such
as refusing to let them eat or on their devices
until their chores are completed . 2 Thessalonians
3:10-11 says that  While we were with you, we
gave you the order: “Whoever doesn’t want to work
shouldn’t be allowed to eat.”
Turning To Crime For Money
Many people commit crimes because of slothfulness.
Often , these individuals do not want to spend the
time to secure a job and sometimes these jobs pay so
little that they would have to have multiple jobs.
Instead , they commit a variety of crimes, from
pickpocketing and shoplifting to selling drugs to
earn an income . This is because of slothfulness.

Not Studying

A lack of studying affects the student negatively;


moreover, it leads to low grades, low self esteem, and
low sense of values. Studying enables students to
enhance and learn more than what they see or read
at first glance . However, slothfulness can cause some
students to decide that studying is too much work for
them and instead do something else . This often leads
to students having bad grades and sometimes even
failing important classes.
