INTRODUCTION
A partnership is an arrangement where
parties, known as business partners, agree to
cooperate to advance their mutual interests.
The partners in a partnership may be
individuals, businesses, interest-based
organizations, schools, governments or
combinations.
Features of Partnership:
• Agreement between Partners
• Two or More Persons
• Sharing of Profit
• Business Motive
• Mutual Business
3
Partnership
Introduction:-
When more than one person agree to invest their money to run a
business or firm then this kind of agreement is called partnership.
The persons involved in the partnership are called partners.

There can be two types of partners in a business:

• Sleeping Partner: This partner has nothing to do with the business management and
he/she provides different resources like land, money, etc.

• Working Partner: This partner manages the business (active partner) and he/she plays
an important role in production, marketing, etc. Working partner gets an incentive for
managing the business and the remaining profit is divided according to the investment.
4
Types of Partnership
There are two types of partnership.
1. Simple Partnership:
• Unequal investment and equal time period: If 2 partners A and B invest unequal amounts for the same
period of time, the ratio of their profits is given by
(Profit of A)/(Profit of B) = (Investment of A)/(Investment of B)
• Equal Investment and unequal time period: If 2 partners A and B invest equal amounts for different time
periods, the ratio of their profits is given by
(Profit of A)/(Profit of B) = (Investment period of A)/(Investment period of B)

2.Compound Partnership
• Unequal investment and unequal period of time: If two partners invest unequal amounts for different time
periods, the ratio of their profits is given by
(Profit of A)/(Profit of B) = (Investment of A * Investment period of A)/( Investment of B * Investment period
of B)

SOLVED EXAMPLES
1. A and B invests 45000 and 63000 respectively in a business. They invest for 1year. Find how much A
will get out of a total profit of 24000?
Explanation:
We know that
[Investment]A * [Time]A = [Profit]A
[Investment]B * [Time]B [Profit]B
(45000* 12)/ (63000 *12) = 5/7 = [Profit]A / [Profit]B
So A will get 5/12 *24000 = Rs.10000

2. P and Q invests in a business. A invest 50,000 for 8 months, and B invests 40,000. If at the end the
profit is distributed in the ratio of 5 : 6. For how much time Q invest?
Explanation:
[Investment]A * [Time]A = [Profit]A
[Investment]B * [Time]B [Profit]B
(50000 * 8) / (40000 * t) = 5/6
5*8/ 4*t = 5/6
t = 12 months 6
SOLVED EXAMPLES
3. Rs. 1800 is divided among A, B, C so that A receives half as much as B and B 1/3rd as much as C.
Then C's share is?
Explanation:
Let C = x.
Then B = x/3
and A = x/6
A:B:C = 1:2:6
C's share Rs.[(6/9)*1800) = 1200

4.Aman received Rs. 6000 as his share out of the total profit of Rs. 9000 which he and Ravi earned at
the end of one year. If Aman invested Rs.120000 for 6 months, whereas Ravi invested his amount for
the whole year, what was the amount invested by Ravi?
Explanation:
Suppose Ravi invested Rs. x. Then,
Aman : Ravi = 20000 * 6 : x * 12.
120000/12x : 6000/3000
=> x = 120000/24 = 5000
7
SOLVED EXAMPLES
5. A, B and C started a business each investing Rs.20000. After 6 month A withdraws Rs.5000, B
withdraws Rs.8000, C invest Rs.6000 more At the end of the years, a total profit was Rs.11300. Find
the share of C.
Explanation:
Ratio of capital of A, B and C.
= ( 20,000 × 6 + 15000 × 6 ) : ( 20,000 × 6 + 12000 × 6 ) : ( 20,000 × 6 + 26000 x 6 )
= 210000 : 192000 : 276000
So, Ratio becomes 35:32:46
Distributing the final profit of Rs. 11300 in the given ratio, the share of C becomes 4600.

6.M, N and O started a business by investing Rs. 50000 Rs. 60000 and Rs.70000 respectively. Find the
share of O, out of an annual profit of Rs.37800.
Explanation:
Ratio of shares of M, N and O = Ratio of their investment
M : N : O = 50000 : 60000 : 70000 = 5 : 6 : 7
Share of O = Rs. [37800 x 7 / 18] = 14700.
