Airspace protection is important to ensure safety for arriving and departing aircraft. It involves controlling activities like permanent structures, temporary structures, drones, balloons, lights, and lasers that could breach protected airspace. International standards define two sets of invisible surfaces above ground: procedures for air navigation services-aircraft operations (PANS-OPS) surfaces, which protect instrument flight; and obstacle limiting surfaces, which protect visual flight. Any potential obstacles must be analyzed to guarantee their impact on aircraft operations is identified. External lighting, lasers, fireworks, and balloons all have potential to confuse or distract pilots.

Why is airspace protection
important
Airspace protection is necessary to ensure a safe and
predictable environment for aircraft arriving and
departing from the airport.
Controlled activities
Any behavior that results in a breach of protected
airspace is referred to as a controlled activities.
These include,

● Permanent structures like buildings


● Temporary structures like cranes
● Drones and balloons
● Lights

Aprroval must be taken from the authorities to


carry out these activities

Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) is a specified section of airspace meant to
protect pilots who rely on instrument navigation. Instruments include
attitude indicator, airspeed indicator, altimeter, and heading indicator.
PANS-OPS surfaces could potentially offer airspace protection around
navigation aids that are essential for instrument flying. Infringement
on PANS-OPS surfaces is not tolerated under any circumstances.
Onstacle Limiting

by sight as the weather is clear and sunny and the
