Injection System
• Injection system is the technology the atomizes the fuel & inject into the cylinder or in manifold.

• Direct Injection system is used in the M274 controlled by ME control unit.

• Direct Injection system atomizes the fuel & spray directly onto the piston inside the cylinder &
spark also occurs inside cylinder.

• Injection system has 2 side:

✔ Low pressure side

✔ High pressure side
Injection System
• Components:

✔ Fuel tank
✔ Feed pump

Ignition System
• The system in an internal-combustion engine that produces the spark to ignite the mixture of fuel
and air: includes the battery, ignition coil, distributor, spark plugs, and associated switches and
wiring.

• This system has the ignition coil pack for every spark plug.

• Ignition coils are controlled ME – SFI control unit.

• Spark is created by coil according to the firing order.

• Ignition plays an important roll in igniting the air fuel mixture.

Synchronizing fuel Injection & Firing Order
• Synchronization of fuel Injection & firing order, general points:

✔ Synchronization of the injection & firing order is achieved by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit
(N3/10) for actuation of cylinder 1 ignition coil to cylinder 4 ignition coil (T1/1 to T1/4) & the
cylinder 1 injection nozzle to cylinder 4 injection nozzle (Y76/1 to Y76/4).

✔ Furthermore, synchronization is required for knock control & fuel shutoff on the individual
cylinders.

✔ The ME control unit synchronizes the injection & firing order using the signals from the
following sensors:

o Intake Camshaft Hall Sensor (B6/15), camshaft setting

o Exhaust Camshaft Hall Sensor (B6/16), camshaft setting
o Crankshaft Hall Sensor (B70), engine speed & crankshaft position
Synchronizing fuel Injection & Firing Order

Problems in Engine
• Problems related to Injection & Ignition system:

✔ Pre-Ignition
✔ Knocking
✔ Detonation
✔ Misfire
Problems in Engine
• Pre-Ignition

• The premature combustion of the air fuel mixture in an internal combustion engine, due to hot
spot or hot carbon acuminated in the cylinder.
Problems in Engine
• Causes:

• Lean air-fuel mixture

• Carbon deposited
• Insufficient engine oil
• Ignition timing too far advance
• Excessive O2 in cylinder camber
• Incorrect spark type

• Remedies:

• Use correct Cetane fuel

• Cooling system adequate working
• Using correct spark plus Heat rang
• Correcting the spark timing
Problems in Engine
• Knocking

• Sharp sound caused by premature combustion of part of the compressed air-fuel mixture in
cylinder.

• Knocking also know as Pinging.

Problems in Engine
• Causes:

• Low octane fuel

• Carbon deposited
• Wrong spark plug
• Low cooling performance

• Remedies:

• Use correct Octane fuel

• Cooling system adequate working
• Using correct spark plus Heat rang
• Cleaning the cylinder
Problems in Engine
• Detonation

• Detonation is rapid & uncontrolled combustion, especially in the cylinder of a Spark Ignition
engine which is operating with a fuel with inadequate Octane number.
Problems in Engine
• Causes:

• Spark too advance

• Too lean mixture
• Too high temp & pressure
• Over charging of mixture
• Too high Octane fuel
• Too much compression

• Remedies:

• Use correct Octane fuel

• Cooling system adequate working
• Using correct spark plus Heat rang
• Cleaning the cylinder
• Controlling turbo
Problems in Engine
• Misfire

• A car's engine skips over one of the processes of its combustion cycle, mainly the power stock.

• When the air-fuel mixture doesn’t ignite during power stock.

• Because of misfire the engine run rough, jerk or buck.

• Also, loss the power.

Problems in Engine
• Causes:

• Low compression pressure

• Too rich mixture
• Faulty spark plug
• Incorrect spark timing
• Improper valve timing

• Remedies:

• Correct the compression pressure

• Adjust the mixture creation
• Replace the spark plug
• Adjust the spark timing
• Adjust the valve timing
