significance?

relationship of it in ourlives today?
• 11 Then ye shall appoint you cities to
Numbers be cities of refuge for you; that the
35:11-12 slayer may flee thither, which killeth
any person at unawares.
• 12 And they shall be unto you cities for
refuge from the avenger; that the
manslayer die not, until he stand
before the congregation in judgment.
…a man may go into the forest with his
Deuteronomy neighbor to cut wood, and as he swings his ax
19:5-6 to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his
neighbor and kill him. That man may flee to
one of these cities and save his life.
Otherwise, the avenger of blood might
pursue him in a rage, overtake him if the
distance is too great, and kill him even though
he is not deserving of death, since he did it to
his neighbor without malice aforethought.
Patriarchs
and Prophets The cities of refuge were so distributed
Chapter 48 as to be within a half day's journey of
E.G.W every part of the land. The roads leading
to them were always to be kept in good
repair; all along the way signposts were
to be erected bearing the word
"Refuge" in plain, bold characters, that
the fleeing one might not be delayed for
a moment. Any person—Hebrew,
stranger, or sojourner —might avail
himself of this provision.
Joshua When they flee to one of these cities, they
are to stand in the entrance of the city gate
20: 4-5
and state their case before the elders of
that city. Then the elders are to admit the
fugitive into their city and provide a place
to live among them.
If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit,
the elders must not surrender the fugitive,
because the fugitive killed their neighbor
unintentionally and without malice
aforethought.
Joshua He is to stay in that city until he
20: 6 stands trial before the assembly
and until the death of the high
priest serving at that time. Then the
manslayer may return to his own
home in the city from which he
fled.
Joshua The following cities were designated as
20: 7-8 cities of refuge: Kedesh of Galilee, in the
hill country of Naphtali; Shechem, in the
hill country of Ephraim; and Kiriath-arba
(that is, Hebron), in the hill country of
Judah. East of the Jordan (on the other
side from Jericho) they designated Bezer
in the wilderness on the plateau in the
tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead in the
tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan in the
tribe of Manasseh.
These are cities of Refuge:
Joshua 1. Kedesh = Sanctuary
20: 7
2. Shechem = shoulder
3. Hebron = covenant
4. Bezer = Fortress
5. Ramoth = Superiority
6. Golan = Passage
7. Mount Calvary = Jesus
Our Sanctuary, our shoulder, our
covenant, our superior and passage is
Jesus.
Conclusion
1. We are God’s Sign Posts. Our Task is
to lead others to Jesus’ Feet.
2. We must plead guilty of His blood
to avail forgiveness.
3. Jesus is our city of refuge.
