Gupta Empire

The Gupta Empire lasted from approximately 320 to 467 CE in northern India. It was established by Chandragupta I and reached its peak under Chandragupta II and Samudragupta. The empire controlled the area of modern India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan from its capital at Pataliputra. This period is considered the Golden Age of India due to major achievements and advancements in science, mathematics, astronomy, religion and philosophy. However, the empire declined in the 6th century CE due to invasions from the Huna people and a series of weak rulers, eventually breaking into regional kingdoms.
