Brief history
Amman
Modern Oman was founded at the end of the
nineteenth century with the arrival of the vanguard
of Circassian immigrants to settle near the torrent
of Amman and the Roman amphitheater in 1878,
as a result of their forced displacement by armed
force by Russian forces.

These immigrants were peasants who worked to

cultivate land, raise livestock, and build their
homes and mosques, where the Ottoman
authorities distributed arable land to them,
reviving the village and restoring life.

Oman then became a magnet for more

residents to come to it from various sides. Oman
was among the areas inhabited by abundant
water, and in 1933, the number of Circassians
reached 1,700.
