First of all we would like thank Wachemo University Industry Linkage and Department
of Computer Science for giving us a chance to participate in month’s internship period
by accepting our request to be placed at Akaki polytechnic collage. We are so grateful
to the internship placement Akaki polytechnic collage Technology Office for successfully
arranging the internship program and providing what we needed. we also would like to
thank our university advisor Mr. Kumela Neda whose guidance, encouragement and
suggestion.

Background of the organization
Akaki Polytechnic College established in Ethiopia since 1957 as a general
educational institution until 1994 2nd level school in the area. It has been
providing services to the youth. Education Training Policy of the Ministry of
Education Management of general and technical and vocational education and
the organization to organize separately (structure) base from 1994 to 2001. When
training up to level three(3) is provided as a technical and vocational institution. It
has been Technical and Vocational Education Training since 2002 Up to level
four(4) by raising the level of the institution to a college.

Main Products and services

✓ It Initiate/Develop/Supervise application development for different sections of

the Collage and provide ongoing maintenance of both the software and the
hardware.
✓ Building a digital teaching-learning environment in terms of teaching, learning
materials and digital resource sharing, promoting interactive academic and
professional communications between teachers, administrative staff, researchers
and students.
✓ Provide sustainable and quality ICT infrastructure and improve student and staff
access to ICT resources in line with collage priorities

OUR INTERNSHIP WORKING SECTION

During our stay in the organization, we have chosen networking and ICT support
maintenance unit from the various sectors offered to us as an alternative, and the
reason is Because of our eagerness to put into practice the network and
maintenance technology we have seen at the theory level because it is one of the
sections of the organization that provides adequate functional training in the
organization.

challenge we have faced

The dedicated room for internship have training room and advisory, but many of
desktop wasn’t functional, due to windows operating system failing, Less
Random-Access Memory (RAM), admin password locked and power off, because
of these things, we were consuming time to accomplish our practical tasks.
✓ lack of transportation system in the morning.
✓ Lack of getting money on time.

In the company, we was working with all the staff members and any individual

peacefully, by the experience we have gained from our internship program. In the

internship period interpersonal communication skill is the best thing because one

way of learning, mutual exchange of ideas, information and skill.

during the internship time and we have been working as a team in order to solve
some problems and it helps us a lot in solving the problem easily and quickly.
During our internship time we have massively improved our team work spirit. As we
all in our campus life sometimes we study in group and sometimes individually. But
during internship time there is no individual thing work.

Enhancing Leadership and Motivation

Leadership is a process of leading the careers of the company. Problems in the
company come in all size, shape,and, color in different period of time. Thus, a
person who is in the position of leadership seeks optimal solution to problems and
should be smart enough to manage those individuals leading.What was gained
from the internship regarding improving leadership is that to inspire workers into
higher levels of teamwork.so that is what we have done during our internship.

Understanding work ethics and related issues Work ethics demonstrate many
things about whom and how a person is. Thus, employer expects employees to
develop certain desirable traits that will help them to perform their jobs. Ethical
work conduct enables me in order to possess appropriate behaviors in the work so,

environment.

4.2 Problems of the activity
Since identifying, defining and analyzing the existing problems in collage essential,
the main problems are: -
✓ Performance problem: It takes large amount of time to perform one activity in the
organization because there is scarcity of materials and professionals in the ICT
office.
✓ Material scarcity. For example, switch trunk, cable and puncher. So, to do well
these things are not fulfilled or shortages of materials.

4.2 Problems of the activity

✓ Data Center: It is known that storing large amount of data requires large Data
center in the universities but It have no proper data center.
. ✓ Network professional workers are busy by different mechanisms.
✓ Power failed for an expected time.
✓ Connection weakness to search in the Google to get some resources from
internet.

General objective of our internship report is information sharing across LAN network
and maintaining the computer problem.

Server role
1)DNS-used as the medium to translate domain names to their respective IP addresses when a
client initiates a request query. DNS stores the database of all the domain names and their IP
addresses registered on the network.
2)ADDS- helps admins manage network elements both computing devices and users and
reorder them into a custom hierarchical structure.AD DS also integrates security by
authenticating logons and controlling access to directory resources.
3)DHCP-dynamically assigns an IP address and other network configuration parameters to
each device on a network so they can communicate with other IP networks

Procedure to install and configure windows server 2008r2
 Make ready the given computers for new Operating System installation and configuration.
 Format and Install Windows Server 2008 Operating System on one computer using 40%
and 60%.
 Format and Install Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System on the other computer.
 Use the following name for the computers:
 A. Server PC: Server B. Client PC: Client
 Give IP address range (10.0.0.10 - 10.0.0.254) from ISP
 Assign IP address, subnet mask, default getaway and DNS server
 Install and configure active directory service based on the following information

• Join the client computer into domain to be accessed by MA group only
• Install and configure DHCP server even through client computer gets automatic IP address
- SCOPE NAME: HNS - SCOPE OF IP: 10.0.0.10 - 10.0.0.254
- EXCLUDE OF IP: 10.0.0.100 - 10.0.0.200 - RESERVE IP: 10.0.0.20
• Create user privilege to change their passwords at firs log in for MA group.
• Disable password complexity requirement and make minimum password length six
characters.
• Create the following group policy for MA member logon account should be expired after 45
day
• Set minimum password age for PR member is 10 days
• Set the access limitation time for PR group to access the network from Monday – Friday
from 8 AM to 5pm only
• Install and configure DNS server to resolve web server IP address to host name www.

• Join the Client Computers and Check if users are able to logon through the Domain.
• Join each user to the domain, show the resource and privilege.
• Share Printer to only PR group.
• Login into server computer from client computer and Reset the user3 and user4 password
into your first name and second name respectively.
• Demonstrate how to create OUs, group and user.
• Demonstrate how to create, rename, delete, disable and enable user account.
• Demonstrate how to reset password. Demonstrate how to delete OU.

General conclusion and recommendation

1 Conclusion
The internship program is the best program for university students because we
changed the theoretical knowledge in to practical. Also, this program allows us to make
and develop professional contacts for our future time and it helps us to know
maintenance terms and working standards

Recommendation to the Akaki polytechnic

 The company do not have full networking materials like electronic resource, we
recommend the company that fulfill the material.
 the company should improve the man power educational level and give for them full
training capability of the networking, maintenance and they should focus to enhance
the maintenance before the failures occur rather than expend time and money after the
huge Problem.
